What do businesses need to know?
Cessnock City Council is pleased to let the community know that the upgrade works on Cooper and Charlton Street are in the final stages and would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience throughout the project.
The laying of pavers will be completed over the next couple of days and then later in the month night works, from 8pm-5am, will commence in order to clean and seal the new pavers. Affected residents and business owners will receive notification of these works prior to their commencement.
During this time, there will be no vehicle access through Cooper Street, between Keene Street and Vincent Street or through Charlton Street, between the Coles and Woolworths carparks. Detours will be in place and the road will be reopened each morning back to normal traffic flows.
Once the paver works are completed, crews will commence line marking and installing signage to reinstate the roundabout in preparation for the official opening, which is expected to take place mid-November, weather permitting.
Council’s Infrastructure Manager, Katrina Kerr is looking forward to seeing the community using and enjoying this revitalised area in our CBD.
“Once completed, residents will be able to enjoy a new raised road pavement which will improve pedestrian amenity, along with additional seating and greenery to improve the streetscape.”
This important project forms part of the Cessnock CBD Revitalisation, which also includes the Bridges Hill Park project and access improvement upgrades, highlighted in the CBD Masterplan.
The project is funded through the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund and NSW Governments Restart NSW– Resources for Regions Program.
