Generation Z’s Voice for Change
Refinery29
Generation Z is raising awareness surrounding global issues such as mental health awareness and climate change. One of the more recognizable faces leading the discussion on climate change is Greta Thunberg. The 16-year-old activist gave an emboldened speech at the 2019 U.N. climate action summit in which she addressed global leaders. Thunberg’s words were met with both praise and criticism, including some who cited her Asperger’s syndrome as a direct influence. Given the tone of her delivery and the intensity of her words, Greta acknowledged that her condition does help to ignite her passion for activism. This openness, paired with a sense of urgency and personal responsibility, is part of what appears to be driving members of Gen Z to become more active in support of helping others.
