Dear <<First Name>>,

And the rain came down and down and down! At least I don’t have to water the pot plants nor the other things I have planted in the veggie garden. It is also good weather to sew and this week I have taken the six miniature quilts I made from a Kim Diehl book earlier in the year and made them into a large quilt. As they were all different sizes, it was a challenge to get them all fitting each other. I will post that on Facebook when Elvene gets it quilted. It won’t be a kit but we can get you the lovely book.

We had so many projects and fabrics to tell you about last week there was no time to mention  Symposium. I hope it went well for you all and you returned home inspired by workshops and exhibitions. These functions are inspirational and I certainly get the best ideas visiting International trade shows - like Houston, which is in 10 days time.

Don’t forget that we are looking for a tutor for next year’s retreat and any recommendations will be looked at as long as the tutor can teach something a bit different from our normal classes.

It was so good to see old friends on their way back and forth from Symposium.   One group arrived at the same time as a sales rep with delicious fabric samples.  The group joined me to choose fabrics for next year. They got a small idea of the decisions I make, almost daily, on what to buy or what not to buy!

New this week
I have lots of yummy new fabrics to tell you about and we are closing off for our October shipment from America on Friday so do think about any notions or books you would like and we should receive them next week.

Caterpillar
We have been waiting for this for some time! What a fabulous panel for boys! We are asked so often for earthmovers, tractors, trains etc and I think this is one of the best panels we have had with boy stuff.

There are two co-ordinates. One has tyre tracks which form stripes so will be really interesting to work with to create patterns and the other is rocks - really well done and should fit with other fabrics.

Check out the coordinates on the website, AG545 - AG547.

Jo Morton’s Shelbyville
This is a very traditional collection from Jo Morton - lots of browns and creams. We have Layer Cakes and 5” swatch packs. In these precuts, you get the whole collection and then we have plenty of bolts to use for borders, bindings, sashings etc.

The precuts mean that you can make a scrappy type quilt knowing that all the fabrics are going to work together. There are 42 squares in each of the 10” and 5” squares packs.

Find the Layercake, charm packs & fabrics on our website, AG550 - AG558.

Wide Backing

This is a most unusual quilt backing. It looks like someone has taken a paintbrush and painted all over the fabric with greens and mauves and it is 2.75 metres wide (108").

It's on the website and the number is AG559.

Fun Plaids
These three fabrics will be a great addition to the brights section of the shop.

They will coordinate really well with children’s prints and other bright fabrics. Greens, blues and reds.

Check these out on our website, AG404 - AG406.

Alphabet Soup Panel
This is a great 'I Spy' fabric and you can cut it up and add patchwork or leave it like it is.

There is one co-ordinate for borders with tossed alphabet letters.

Find these on our website, AG548 - AG549.

Night Sky
This would make a great background fabric, it is a very dark blue with stars.

Always useful to have a fabric like this in your collection because I know when you are looking for it, we won’t have it!

You can find this fabric on our website, AG254.

Brambles from Lecien
This is a beautiful print on a dark blue background from the Memoires of Paris collection.

Nice bramble leaves and berries.

This bramble can be found here, AG260.

Fossil Ferns
We now have over 80 Fossil Ferns and they are a great basic palette so do check them out on our website.

Labour Weekend
We will be closed on the Monday of Labour Weekend but open on the Saturday as usual.

This Sunday - 20th October
Because we have Maryann Paterson here teaching for the weekend we will be open on Sunday until 4 pm.

Until next week,

Hazel

Not sausage rolls, Sausage Rolls!

I have been playing with dumplings.  This is a dumpling filling, but it makes quite a lot so I made sausage rolls with puff pastry and these turned out to be delicious - especially cold so this would be great for lunch boxes.

200g raw prawns cleaned and deveined
400g minced pork
1 tablespoon grated ginger
1 spring onion
handful of chives
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tsp fish sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tin water chestnuts

Whizz everything except the water chestnuts in the food processor. Add the drained water chestnuts and whizz but not for too long as you want to have some crunchy bits.
