CCLSWA October 2019 Newsletter
This October, we held our AGM and launched the Annual Report. We are delighted to announce the Board for 2019 – 2020 as Chair: Liz McCoy, Deputy Chair: Bev Jowle, Treasurer: Claire Whitelaw-Brown, Secretary: Laurence Coleman, General Board Members: Ed Souti, Sigourney Drane, Tony Evans.

We would like to say a special thank you to Rachel Doraisamy who has resigned from the Board. Rachel was a CCLSWA volunteer in 2016. In 2017 we decided to ask ex-volunteers to join our Board and Rachel joined with Edward and Sigourney. This new direction refreshed the Board and contributed to the excellent team we have in place.  Rachel has been working at Street Law WA and she will be taking a new role with Legal Aid in the Regions. We wish her well!
We are delighted to present this year's Annual Report. The front cover features photos from our CCLSWA #Supporters event we held in March with photo credits to Angelique from Brand Aid.

The Report features the highlights of the year. This year we began the process of measuring impact and we are delighted to share the result of the staff and volunteer surveys.
We were very proud of our staff results and feel the investment in staff development this year has really reaped rewards.
CHOICE has announced its 14th Annual SHONKYS, and Georgia travelled to Sydney to be there. CHOICE’s job is to stand up against companies doing the wrong thing. The SHONKYS draw upon unique testing, reviews and advocacy to help the public identify the worst-of-the-worst. This year highlighted businesses and industries who have ripped off, misled and treated Australians like cash cows. Following the Banking Royal Commission, it’s no surprise that financial services businesses are such a feature of this year's SHONKYS. The SHONKYS 2019 are: Kogan - for dodgy customer care; Medibank ‘Basic’ Cover Health Insurance - for failing at the “basics”; IKEA Nedkyld Fridge - for failing energy tests and being bad at its one job; AMP Superannuation - for ruined retirements; Freedom Foods XO Crunch - for telling us a bag of sugar is healthy; Pet insurance - for bad insurance riddled with exclusions.
The Financial Counsellors' Association of WA and the Community Resilience and Relief Sector are presenting their annual conference with the theme 'Be Inspired!' We will be speaking and appearing at their Marketplace.  Join them at the Duxton Hotel.
