Weekly Spotlight

Synapse Orlando 2019

All-day this Friday the Orlando innovation community gathers at Synapse Orlando 2019 at Ace Cafe. As their website states: "Experience technology and creativity in downtown Orlando when companies, founders, artists and performers from across the region gather to celebrate innovation in the Orlando region with Synapse Orlando and the Creative City Project’s annual event, Immerse."

Synapse Orlando is an offshoot of the Synapse Summit in Tampa.  That innovation event started in 2016 with an attendance of 600 and has grown to span two-days at Amalie Arena with over 5,000 people attending this past January.  The Orlando Economic Partnership participated in the Tampa event and partnered with the organizers to bring the concept to Orlando.

With more than 50 speakers in over 20 sessions along with an exhibit area it should be a great event to hear about and connect with Orlando's innovation community.  I urge everyone attend and look forward to seeing you there.

Pitch Madness

Pitch Madness will be hosted by Synapse Orlando at Ace Cafe on Friday from 9 am to 11:15 am.  Pitch Madness is a different kind of pitch competition which will offer Synapse attendees a unique look at the founders behind 6 Orlando startups.  In this competition the six founders are "seeded" into 3 brackets - Enterprise SAAS (Eli Mattern, Savvy Suit and Justin Mitchell, Yak Chat) Gaming/Simulation (Robert Torres, 302 Interactive and Sean Pinnock, Cyberdream), and Healthcare Tech (Gordon Folkes, Archer First Response Systems and Tony Ruben, Blue Halo Medical).  These founders debate each other in front of industry judges who pick the bracket winner.  The three winners advance to the finals and debate in front of a group of investor judges: David Barkoe, Carve Communications; Dennis R. Pape, SeedFundersOrlando, Ben Patz, DeepWork Capital, Aia Sarycheva, Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, and Tom Wallace, Florida Funders. The winner will receive a $5K equity investment from SeedFundersOrlando, $1500 cash, and office hours and pitch review with VentureScaleUp's mentor network.  One of the finalists will have a $25K equity investment option from DeepWork Capital.  This event will be a lot of fun and I look forward to participating.
