PARTITION: A Dividing Ireland
in a Dividing Europe

This conference is a regional, one-day event to engage community-based participants in a practical day of learning to illuminate the period 1920-22. Speakers include Professor Alan Sharp, Dr Eamon Phoenix and Liz Gillis. Their input will set the scene for smaller group sessions in the late morning and a panel discussion in the afternoon.

Three smaller group sessions will discuss activities that could be delivered in local communities to help explore the centenary of events during the period. We hope that these provide ideas for participants to take away with them.

The conference will also remind participants of the principles of commemoration:

1. Start from the historical facts;

2. Recognise the implications and consequences of what happened;

3. Understand that different perceptions and interpretations exist; and

4. Show how events and activities can deepen understanding of the period.

The conference will also host community based groups, relevant agencies and stakeholders who will be displaying their work and resources in a market place format.
