October 18, 2019  •  www.stlukesbr.org

St. Luke’s was founded in 1956 by a handful of worshippers who first met in a private home, then at Goodwood Elementary School, and next in temporary buildings erected by parishioners. With the gift of seven acres of land from Mrs. Eleanor Witter, the owner of the former Goodwood Plantation, St. Luke’s members realized their dream of a permanent church home. Here's a photo of the groundbreaking, when folks in 1964 were "Shepherding St. Luke's."

Sunday is the last day of our Annual Giving campaign. If you haven't already, please make a pledge to help our church continue to grow and touch lives. You can take a moment now to easily pledge online at www.stlukesbr.org/giving. or Commitment forms will be available in church.

We thank you in advance for your financial commitment to St. Luke's, and your ongoing gifts of time and talent. Together, we are "Shepherding St. Luke's."

The Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist
This Sunday, we'll celebrate the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist. (Heads up- incense will be used at the 11:10 am service.)
Almighty God, who inspired your servant Luke the physician to set forth in the Gospel the love and healing power of your Son: Graciously continue in your Church this love and power to heal, to the praise and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Oct. 20: Flu Shots

From 8:30 am until noon, flu vaccinations will be available in the St. Luke's Church Office this Sunday for ages 8 and up (or as young as 5 years old if they’ve had a flu shot before). Plans accepted include traditional insurance, Medicare Part B, and Medicare Advantage; otherwise, the cost is $40. Questions? Please contact Becky Williams: (225) 926-5343 or bwilliams@stlukesbr.org.
Oct. 23: ATP Trip to Middendorf's
Our "Aged to Perfection" group is making a trip down the highway to Middendorf's, a beloved restaurant destination in Manchac since 1934. The caravan will leave from the St. Luke's parking lot at 10:15 am and arrive for lunch at 11:30 am. Think about whether you'd prefer to drive, ride, or meet the gang there, then please RSVP by this Sunday to Gloria (225-272-9563), Priscilla (225-078-5816), or the church office (225-926-5343).

Oct. 27: St. Luke's Spooktacular

Check out this Van Gogh inspired haunted landscape created by a third-grader at our school! See this and other "spooktacular" artwork on October 27. Our annual fall festival expands this year with the welcome addition of visual and performing arts from our school community! The festivities will begin in Witter Hall at 3:30 pm with the Spooktacular Concert & Art Show, featuring band, choir, and art students from our school. The fun continues with carnival games and trunk-or-treat in the church parking lot from 4 pm until 6 pm. Gather your family and friends, dress in favorite costumes, and come out to St. Luke's for family fun!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! See details and sign up HERE...
Oct. 30: Medicare Advising
The annual enrollment period for Medicare is now until December 7. Our own Kendall Daigle is offering a presentation at St. Luke's for those who might want to add or change their plans. Kendall is licensed and experienced in the insurance industry. Her presentation at St. Luke's will be strictly educational, certainly not a sales event, and we hope many of you can take advantage of her expertise. Please bring a friend who might be interested in this information. Free and open to all. 7 pm on October 30.
Journey to the Holy Land
The time to register for the 2020 Pilgrimage to the Holy Land sponsored by our diocese is now! Registration deadline is November 1. Full details here...
Vestry Nominations Soon
We'll start accepting nominations for new Vestry members very soon. Meanwhile, please start thinking if you or someone you know might be a good candidate for our Vestry. Keeping the St. Luke's mission in mind, Vestry members work together for the greater good of our church: its programming, facilities, fiscal health, and spiritual life. Nominees should be baptized and confirmed members of the church; receive communion on a regular basis; and pledge financial support to St. Luke's. Stay tuned for more from our Nominations Committee.

Coming to St. Luke's on November 16, Invite Welcome Connect is a transformational ministry that helps churches to become places of genuine connection for inviting the faith journeys and stories of everyone, enabling deeper journeys of Christian discipleship, and enabling the Spirit of Christ to be at the heart of each church's hospitable mission.

St. Luke's will host an Invite Welcome Connect workshop for all the churches in our deanery, and everyone is encouraged to attend! Register HERE.
