Greetings!
So many challenges in our world, in my own self too! What is God calling me to? Whatever it is, God is calling me to joy. God has bestowed so many gifts: prophesy, knowledge, wisdom, single-mindedness, healing, faith, discernment, listening, writing, accounting, creative thinking, humor, designing, building; the list can go on and on. Placing whatever gifts I find in myself in service to benefit others is a font of joy beyond imagining, as well as a small step toward my further growth as a person.
God’s world and this newsletter offer opportunities to step forward and try something new. Perhaps a hidden gift will be discovered, perhaps new joy will be generated! Perhaps my laughter will reverberate around the world, like butterfly wings creating wind.
Peace,
Mary Krolikowski

Pope Francis Quote
With God’s love, which blossoms into an enriching friendship, we are liberated from our narrowness and self-absorption. We become fully human when we become more than human, when we let God bring us beyond ourselves in order to attain the fullest truth of our being. Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 8

Beyond education, CCMR members engage in advocacy and dialogue with Wisconsin Senators Baldwin and Johnson and Representatives Moore, Steil, Sensenbrenner and Grothman. CIVILIZE IT!
With another election cycle in full swing, we are faced with the difficult question of what it means to love our neighbors in the midst of such a divisive climate. We are called to bring the best of ourselves and our faith to the public square—and yet today, many shy away from such involvement because our national and local conversations are filled with anger and harsh language, often directed at people themselves. When personal attacks replace honest debate, no one wins. This kind of attack, no matter the reason, only serves to further divide our communities. As Catholics, we must model a better way.
On Sunday, November 3rd, one year ahead of the 2020 national elections, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will launch a year-long campaign inviting Catholics to model civility and love for neighbor throughout this election year. Civilize It: Dignity Beyond the Debate will ask Catholics to pledge civility, clarity, and compassion in their families, communities, and parishes, and call on others to do so as well. Built on the recognition that every person—even those with whom we disagree—is a beloved child of God who possesses inherent dignity, the campaign will offer materials and ideas to help Catholics and others of good will to engage in and model respect and compassion. Civilize It builds on a similar effort implemented in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in previous election years. It is being offered in concert with a wider ecumenical effort, Golden Rule 2020, which invites all Christians to model our shared values of dignity and civility and pursue dialogue instead of division.
Together with USCCB, dioceses around the country are invited to utilize Civilize It to help Catholics put our faith in action by honoring human dignity through civil conversation. We invite you to join us in the launch of this effort by promoting Civilize It within your diocese beginning November 3rd.
Campaign materials include promotion tools, a pledge to civility that can be taken by individuals and communities, resources for prayer and reflection including a pastoral aid and prayer for civility, tips for civil dialogue, and more. More information on Civilize It as well as launch materials, resources and other tools are available on CivilizeIt.org.

Exploitation through Harmful Images, Sharing Responsibility in Preventing Harm
Sunday Nov 3 | 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm
From FCAST
What are the implications of what we view on digital media? Pornography, like other things that are readily available on our technology, has reached a superlative point of accessibility for not only adults but also our youth. Culturally it has become more and more acceptable. At the same time, its been shown that addiction to porn, among other things, can cause greater violence against women and distortion of what a respectful loving relationship looks like.
On November 3, Barry Slagel of Lotus Legal Clinic will facilitate a discussion with Chris Drosdick, Art Psychotherapist; Dawn Jones, Retired Milwaukee Law Enforcement; Carrie DiPaloa; Founder of The Village, a support group for women whose spouses struggle with porn addiction; and Kimberly Sisson, Survivor Advocate. We welcome you to come lean more about this important topic. The program is Free and appropriate for ages 14 and above. A Spanish interpreter will be present. Location: St. Mary’s Catholic Church Community Room, 225 S. Hartwell, Waukesha Please Register at www.ConvTrafficking.org Sponsored by the St. Mary’s Catholic Communities and Faith Coalition Against Sex Trafficking Waukesha County

We may lose the Amazon rainforest
“…together with the oceans, (the Amazon) contributes decisively to the survival of the planet. Much of the oxygen we breathe comes from there. That’s why deforestation means killing humanity.” ~ Pope Francis, August 2019
“I hope she is wrong. If she is right, it is the end of the world” ~ Conservation biologist Thomas Lovejoy about a new prediction that deforestation in the Amazon rainforest could become irreversible within 2 years.
---------------------------------------
I want so much to write that things are not this bad. But they are getting very bad indeed. Ask people in California.
Did you know that multi-year drought is one of the factors driving Central Americans to the US border?
Lovejoy, one of the world’s better known and respected climate scientists says in the article linked below that he thinks the Amazon rainforest will not hit the point of irreversibility with 2 years. But he has also shortened his timeline, which was 20-25 years, by 5.

MyRVP App
WISDOM has launched the Integrated Voter Engagement Campaign (IVE). This is an effort to build strong ties in communities around issues and to work in those same communities around voting as elections draws near. WISDOM affiliates are making plans for canvassing regularly in targeted areas.
Along with the door-to-door canvassing, we have an exciting tool for this campaign: the MyRVP App.
YOU CAN USE THE APP AND PARTICIPATE IN OUR CAMPAIGN!
Using the MyRVP App on your smart phone (sorry, not on your computer), you select personal contacts from your phone, and talk with friends and loved ones about issues, voting, election dates, resources and much more!
- Go to your app store and search for “Empower (MyRVP)”
If the App isn’t found, go to your search bar, type in empower.com/wisdom, enter your phone number, and follow the instructions from the text you will receive.
- Sign up using phone number or email
- Enter the invite code, which is “WISDOM”
- Your phone contacts will come up. Select the ones you want to focus on, probably the ones least like to vote. The App will automatically list them by High Priority (least likely to vote), Medium Priority, and Low Priority (they vote in most elections).
The App gives you suggestions for giving them a call or email. It gives Tips, as well as how to reach Yolanda, WISDOM’s Campaign Director, for questions. As we move forward, you’ll receive new messages for your outreach.
Statistics show that people are more likely to vote if someone they trust talks to them regularly about voting and makes sure they know what they need to take with them to the polls, how to use the machines, and how to think about the issues.
Join us in our Integrated Voter Engagement Campaign!
This is what the App looks like!

REFLECT
Poem by Julia McGuiness in Our Hearts Still Sing
Some people travel in straight lines:
Sit in metal boxes, eyes ahead
Always mindful of their target,
Moving in obedience to coloured lights and white lines,
Mission accomplished at journey’s end.
Some people travel around in circles:
Trudging in drudgery, eyes looking down,
Knowing only too well their daily, unchanging round,
Moving in response to clock and to habit,
Journey never finished yet never begun.
I want to travel in patterns of God’s making:
Walking in wonder, gazing all around,
Knowing my destiny, though not my destination,
Moving to the rhythm of the surging of his spirit,
A journey which when life ends, in Christ has just begun.
