Emergency Air Pollution Measures Talk

Alison Cook from the British Lung Foundation gave a talk to our year 4,5 & 6 children.  Her talk informed the children about how the lungs are affected by pollution, learning what the causes of air pollution are and how they can start make an impact to reduce the pollution that they breath.  Alison then talked to a group of adults making them aware about the dangers of air pollution in our daily lives both in and outside the home.  There were some excellent questions raised by the children and the adults and it has certainly made everyone think about the air around them.  Thank you to everyone who attended the presentation on air pollution, it was very interesting to hear how it affects children and what we may do to minimize the effects.

A group of Loreto Parents have established a small working party to monitor the air pollution in Gibraltar in their local area.  They have purchased air monitoring units and their real time results can be monitored on the Purpleair.com website here.  As part of a series looking at the environment, James Murphy from GBC interviewed Alison asking her about the her work with The British Lung Foundation and how we as Gibraltarians should be aware of such risks.

We are extremely grateful for Alison's time in talking at Loreto.

First Aid

We now have an extensive list of staff members that are trained for paediatric and adult First aid.  Staff have been attending an intensive course after school to become a Paediatric first responder.

Chess Club

Chess club takes place at Loreto on Wednesday lunchtimes.  We are fortunate to have Stuart Conquest, Grandmaster, joining us for coaching.  If your middle school child is interested in learning a new skill or wants to play and meet new people, speak to Mrs Garner to find out about joining the club.
Everyone is welcome.

Nautilus Judging
Lewis and Melanie Stagnetto came in to judge the year 6 posters on Vertebrates and Invertebrates. Watch this space for results, which will be announced next week.
Anne Frank Talk
Children in year 7 visited Prior Park School, joining Prior Park students for a talk on Anne Frank.  The talk was delivered by Gillian Walnes Perry (MBE), the co-founder of the Anne Frank Trust UK.  It was an excellent presentation which the children found both informative and enjoyable.
The visit to Prior Park also gave our year seven pupils the opportunity to catch up with their peers in Prior Park, which they thoroughly enjoyed judging by the amount of back slapping, hand shaking etc. that went on.
