Experiencing the Roar of the Falls

Thomas Jefferson school logoThe fifth grade is on the move! Classes are taking their annual field trips to Great Falls Park to learn about geology and make good use of fantastic, local resources. The main goal is to explore and learn about geology and rocks, which students study in the PYP "How We Organize Ourselves" unit of inquiry. While at the park, they heard from rangers about some of the area's wildlife, the flood history of Great Falls, the history of the canal and lock system, and learned a little about U.S National Parks.

Evening Hours for Families
PTA Book Fair This Week

Book Fair for FCEPTAPlan your trip to the FCEPTA Book Fair for any night, Tuesday through Thursday, this week. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers above, the Fair will be open those evenings for family shopping from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Students will visit with their classes beginning today. There are great book choices for preschoolers through middle schoolers. Volunteers are still needed to serve as cashiers. And especially, to help with the pack up when the fair is over. Please click here to help the PTA make this a success - it benefits the JTP, MD, and TJ libraries!

Volleyball Takes Season to 12-4

George Mason sports logoThursday night, the Volleyball team juggled a 3-0 win while promoting a very successful Dig Pink fundraiser for breast cancer. The win over Brentsville featured substantial contributions from the starters as well as showcasing their great depth off the bench. The team had set a goal of $500 for Dig Pink but also spiked that, raising more than $1000 through donations, raffles, and a serving competition at the break of both the JV and varsity games. They play at home tomorrow against William Monroe.

Home Win Against Central's Falcons

George Mason sports logoIt was a close, hard-fought game that had drama in abundance, including turnovers, penalty flags, and called back TDs, but the Mustangs prevailed on Friday night in front of a loud home crowd. With the score 8-6 at the half, both teams added a touchdown in the second, making the score 15-13 as the clock wound down. Mason's record now stands at 4-3, and the team plays Skyline at GM on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Six Races at Battlefield Invitational

George Mason sports logoThe last regular season meet of the year for Boys and Girls X-Country was on Saturday at Winchester's Third Battlefield. All the races were started by cannon fire! The fast, flat course saw the Mustangs' 5K runners achieve 30 personal records and season-best times. In the varsity races, Lauren Mellon paced the girls' team in 33rd running 19:38 and Colson Board led the boys' team in 74th running 17:06. Overall the Girls finished 22nd beating bigger schools including Battlefield and Loudoun County and also placing ahead of district foe Warren County. The Boys finished in 28th ahead of larger schools Fauquier and Woodgrove. The top ten boys and girls advance to the post-season when the Mustangs take on the Northwestern District on October 29 at Central.
