Thanks and Giving
With our beloved holiday just around the corner, we couldn’t resist giving thanks to Chef José Andrés, winner of the “Outstanding Chef” and “Humanitarian of the Year” awards by the James Beard foundation for his founding of the World Central Kitchen, a non-profit devoted to feeding survivors of natural disasters around the world.
Andrés is a busy guy; not only have his restaurants won Michelin stars, he recently published a new cookbook, Vegetables Unleashed, and just appeared on National Public Radio where he proclaimed his love of canned food! When asked what he likes to enjoy when he tires of “fancy food,” he said: canned food. “Yeah. I love cans—canned food.” From caviar to SPAM, this acclaimed chef is a big fan of the can. “I like food in a can. Let me put it this way. Imagine you’re hungry. You have nobody around you. You have a can. You open the can. You are eating. Amazing.”
We were huge fans of Andrés’s work before, but we feel even more inspired to share his story. Not only is he a tour de force in his approach to saving lives, but he’s given a little boost to the beloved can along the way. Cheers to you Chef Andrés!
