PG&E Restores Power to Sausalito Neighborhoods

Power Outage Map
The PG&E outage map showing no active shutoffs in Sausalito on Friday, October 11
PG&E has restored power to all affected Sausalito neighborhoods after a Public Safety Power Shutoff that began in the early morning of Wednesday, October 9. Power began coming back on at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, and by 7:30 p.m. the PG&E outage map was showing that Sausalito was completely re-energized.

The City of Sausalito and the Marin County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services will be working with PG&E to understand how the company selected specific neighborhoods for shutoff and whether those neighborhoods are more likely to be subject to another shutoff if threatening conditions return. As more information becomes available, updates will appear in Sausalito Currents and the wildfire preparedness news page on the City website.

The City will be conducting a review of its response to the shutoff to identify areas of improvement in the event of another Public Safety Power Shutoff or a disaster that causes a widespread power outage. Areas for review include public safety, communications, traffic control, transportation, and charging stations and other public amenities. The City will also be working with the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce to understand the economic impact of the shutoff on local businesses.

Jazz and Blues by the Bay to Expand Musical Offerings in 2020

Jazz and Blues by the Bay
The crowd at a Jazz and Blues by the Bay concert in July 2019
Beginning in 2020, Sausalito's summertime Jazz and Blues by the Bay concert series will begin including a few bands on the schedule that are not classified as jazz or blues.

The decision to explore different musical genres is based on an online survey conducted by the Parks and Recreation Department, in which 117 of 134 registered participants said they would be open to musical alternatives. Other than jazz and blues, survey respondents selected the following genres as their favored alternatives:
  • Folk/Bluegrass/Americana
  • Rock
  • R&B/Funk
  • Oldies
  • Latin/World Music
In other findings, 75% of respondents rated their experience at Jazz and Blues by the Bay as good or great, 80% said they would recommend the concert series to a friend, and "socializing" was rated just ahead of "music" for what people like best. Additional results and findings may be found in the slides from an October 8 presentation to the City Council by Recreation Supervisor Julie Myers.

Any questions about the survey or about the Jazz and Blues by the Bay concert series may be directed to Julie Myers at jmyers@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4152.

Extra Garbage Pickup Scheduled for Week of October 21

Garbage and Recycling Bins
Trash, recycling, and green waste bins
Sausalito's garbage services provider, Bay Cities Refuse, has announced that its Fall Cleanup will be held the week of October 21 through 25. On your usual garbage collection day that week, Bay Cities will collect up to one additional cubic yard of refuse, the equivalent of seven plastic garbage bags. All material must be placed in bags, boxes, or containers and placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m.

There is no charge to dispose of the additional refuse on your cleanup day. Larger items such as furniture can be scheduled for removal at extra cost by calling Bay Cities at (415) 332-3646.

All material from the extra garbage pickup will be taken to landfill. As always, place recyclable materials in your blue bin and green waste (yard and food waste) in your green bin or in reusable 30-gallon paper bags. There is never a limit to how much yard waste you may place at the curbside. Reusable items should be donated to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

Hazardous materials such as computer monitors or printers, paint, motor oil, household batteries, or microwaves can be taken to the Marin Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 565 Jacoby Street in San Rafael.
