Dear Supporters,
Please forgive me for emailing you again so soon..
As you know I mentioned in my preamble to the minutes that we might be in touch asking for help. Since there is urgency here it is...
Please help us by signing and sharing and asking anyone you know to help to promote  this petition....Michael is only 20 and from Eritrea. He was seeking asylum in Germany until earlier this year when he was refused asylum  and given a date  to be deported to Eritrea. He is fearful that he would face certain death if returned so somehow he managed to leave Germany and come to the UK. He arrived in Swansea in early summer and came to Brecon for the welcome day there when some of us met him. He was detained when he reported to the Home Office immigration office in Swansea on Monday 7th October. Our contact in Swansea, Maria Nicholas , only discovered this on Wednesday evening and he has been given a date for deportation to Germany on 17th October. He is  fearful that return to Germany will result in immediate deportation to Eritrea and death. Maria Nicholas has asked us to try to help him as she feels he is a good man and his story and fear seem credible. Our Maria Duggan therefore  started this petition with information provided by Maria Nicholas.
We want to ask the Home Secretary to exercise leniency, allow him to stay here  and be reunited with his family.
Some states in Germany do send people to Eritrea and other parts don't. At present the UK rarely sends people back to Eritrea as the situation there is so difficult. So sending him to Germany may be a back door route to Eritrea.
Please help us to help him by signing and asking your friends and family to do the same.
Meanwhile please also ask friends and family to sign the Otis Petition . He is due to have a hearing of his appeal on Wednesday and then we hope he will be granted leave to remain and continue to brighten up people's lives in Swansea.
AND  National Hate Crime Report and Support Centre at Victim Support will be hosting an interactive workshop dedicated to educating and informing all staff and charity bodies within South Wales upon how to recognise and report incidents of Hate Crime. This is very short notice as the meeting is on Monday 14 October 2019. 10:00 – 12:30 !  You can book places here
Finally Our Welcome day in Bronllys went very well with  walks to the fort and the castle and lots of singing. Thanks to Sue and Gez for coordinating and to all who came and helped so much.
all good wishes,
 Ailsa
