Secondary Newsletter

18th October 2019

Dear Secondary Gecko Parents,

It was wonderful to see so many parents and students at the Parent, Student, Teacher Conferences held from Monday to Wednesday this week.  There were over 300 students and their parents signed up, which clearly shows that you, our parents, care deeply about your children and are prepared to give up your precious time to attend these conferences.  It is the connection between home and school that will help us to provide the best learning opportunities and environment possible.

These conversations are vital to the continued growth of our students and to ensure that our partnerships between school and home, are strong. To ensure the continued improvement of communication and conferences at Bayside, we would love to have your feedback.  Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and opinions, to help us refine our systems, going forward by completing the survey on the link below.

Parent-Teacher Conference Feedback

Tonight, our High School Student Council, with support from the PSA, will be hosting a Haunted House from 6:30 pm around the Bayside campus.  This is one of those exciting evenings where our students put on entertainment for those younger members of our community.  These real-world experiences of designing, promoting and delivering a project that has come together over many weeks of planning are invaluable in providing relevant lifelong learning skills.  Whether that is in the area of communications or critical thinking every experience will help to develop more future-ready global citizens.

Over the last few weeks, we have been reviewing how we can best support the growing number of students on our Bayside campus and that included looking at our lunchtimes.  We have implemented a split lunch that ensures both MS and HS students have quicker access to purchasing food at the cafeteria, places to sit and eat in the cafeteria and the ability to utilise the full 40 minutes for lunch.  We have been monitoring some of the positive and negative aspects of this change and addressing issues as they come up.  The feedback from students is completely split and we will continue to monitor this change.

Over the last two days, we have had over 35 global universities visit our campus during lunchtime.  These are part of the over 200 universities that annually visit the campus.  It is a wonderful opportunity for students (and their parents) to create a connection with a member of the international admissions team from universities of interest.  Ms. Paula Brunning our HS Counselor does a great job of coordinating these visits and will regularly send out reminders to parents ahead of these visits.

A reminder that we have another MS/HS Parent Coffee Morning next Wednesday at 9:45 am in the Bayside Amphitheater.  The focus of the session will be on looking at the "Fundamentals of Success" in terms of developing social and emotional resilience.  We hope to see many of you at the coffee morning.

All the best

Craig Ortner (HS Assistant Principal)
Nathan Lill (MS Assistant Principal)
Phil Rogers (Secondary Principal)
