Teamwork makes things happen!

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh,

Please take a look at what our staff and students have accomplished during the month of October...we hope you enjoy reading this monthly recap!

Our students in 9th and 10th grades took the PSAT test on Oct. 16th in school. Coordinated by Sister Nadirah and proctored by Sister Abir and Brother Ali Jabir.

Upper School Coordinator
We are pleased to announce Sister Natasha Haroon as the Upper School Coordinator. Sister Natasha will work on the following:

  • Plan meetings with graduating high school students at least once every two weeks to make sure they are staying on track with schoolwork. 

  • Plan and prepare for college by helping students register for the SAT and making sure students are practicing through Khan Academy.

  • Plan college site visits for upper school students to visit local surrounding universities and state colleges.

  • Help students complete their FAFSA application as well as apply for scholarships, grants and financial assistance through their college.

  • Created a 3 year curriculum track for students to know what courses they need to take in order to graduate from Garden of the Sahaba Academy in 11th grade with a High School diploma.

Academics
  • Middle Science Fair on Oct. 24th, 9 top 3 trophy winners, 3 overall winners and 15 move on to the Palm Beach County Science Fair
  • Meeting with HS students to go over individualized tracks for graduation
  • Meeting with 8th and HS parents to discuss FSA ELA & EOC exams, and the new HS curriculum track for graduation 
  • College fair and college visit discussion with parents
Professional Development Day (PDD)
Teachers and staff were trained to administer and proctor the PSAT test and also trained in Youth Mental Health.
Everyone that completed the trainings received certification.
School Nurse, Sister Sheila D’Metayer, RN
  • October was National Dental Hygiene Month.  A dental health presentation was given to students in grades PreK - 5th. 

  • State-mandated scoliosis screening was completed on October 29th for all 6th graders. Students will be sent home with a letter from the school nurse if a follow-up screening is necessary. 

  • Parents and staff members who signed up for a free smart thermometer through the Kinsa program after October 15th, will receive them mid-November.

Tarbiyah

Students were taught about the origin of halloween and it was explained to them that Islam is a religion full of mercy and to be happy celebrating our festivals which are Fridays, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. They were also told all festivals are an act of worship and the prophet, peace be upon him, said that this day Friday, is an Eid for the Muslims and therefore whoever comes for prayer let him take a shower.
