ðŸŽ‰  🎉 We did it! You did it! 🎉 🎉
Capital Nordic Walking is a very proud recipient of a Westfield Woden Local Hero award!  Westfield Local Heroes is a community recognition and grants program, connecting and enriching local communities. Launched in 2018, the program spans the 40 trade areas across Australia and New Zealand. In 2019, Westfield awarded $1.2 million to 121 local organisations. Individuals are nominated by their local communities, with the outcome of a public vote determining the three successful 2019 nominees for every Westfield centre.

We were overwhelmed and deeply touched by the level of support from our community - Nordic Walkers and Partner organisations far and wide - for our Local Hero campaign in recognition of our Community Outreach Program which was nominated under the Social Well-being and Inclusion category. Click here to learn more about the origins of our program and our plans for the $10,000 grant.

Providing a safe, supported environment for people to come together on a regular basis to Nordic Walk, where they can enjoy the great outdoors and connect with others, has proven to be a simple, but powerful solution to help people to stay fit and connected - and is particularly important for people with mobility challenges who struggle to move easily and safely.  Read more about our quest to be a Local Hero here

Parkinson's ACT needs your help to make our "Walk in the Park" Fun Run, Walk and Nordic Walk, fund-raising event a success.
~ We are only 15 days out and don't have enough registrations ~
We can't do this without support from the Canberra Community. So please grab your walking or running shoes, your Nordic Walking poles, your family, friends, and colleagues, and come along on Sunday 20th October to help us make this event a success for the many Canberran's, and their families, living with Parkinson's.
Did you know that every day in the nation's capital and surrounding areas approximately 1500 people and their families wake up knowing they have to face another day of living with an illness that constantly takes from them?  They know there is no cure and that their symptoms will progress over time and yet they keep fighting - they are fighting Parkinson's disease.

It has long been thought of as an "old person's illness" but the reality is that of the 1500, in our community, approximately 300 are diagnosed under the age of 50.They are still working, raising children and paying mortgages. They fight to hold onto their health, so they can live their best life they can for as long as they can.

Parkinson's ACT and its dedicated committee of 10 volunteers are working tirelessly to support as many people and their families who live with Parkinson's. PACT receives no government funding and relies on the success of their biennial 'Walk in the Park' to raise, not only awareness for Parkinson's but, funds to keep programs running and to increase support for the newly formed "Young@Park" group as a priority. Kristen Pratt, Founding Director of Capital Nordic Walking, is a member of the Parkinson's Committee.

Feel on Top of the World – Join this Walking Holiday in the Austrian Alps!

Get ready for 2020! Why not join Nordic Walking pioneers Patrick and Maree Burtscher (from Nordic Academy Australia) and other like-minded walkers for a spectacular and fully hosted walking holiday in the Austrian Alps.

For the past ten years Patrick has been welcoming guests to his home village and valley of ‘Grosses Walsertal’ in Austria (near the Swiss and Liechtenstein borders). The valley is a particularly special region which is a certified ‘UNESCO Biosphere Reserve’ as well as a ‘European Destination of Excellence’. Despite these titles and its stunning natural beauty, it is an unassuming and authentic valley off the main tourist trail.

On both the 10-day ‘Classic Alpine Walking’ and the 7-day ‘Alpine Wellness’ holidays, guests are led by Patrick or Maree on daily walks through varied alpine terrain, engage in various cultural activities to learn about and experience how the local ‘Walser’ people live in the alps, sightsee the surrounding area (including a day trip to Lake Constance) and simply have fun - knowing they are being taken care of every step of the way.

Accommodation is centre-based in a 4+ star hotel which provides indulgent wellness facilities and four-course fine dining at the end of each day. It’s all designed to leave guests feeling rejuvenated and ‘on top of the world’.

Patrick and Maree hope to be welcoming and sharing their alpine paradise with you in 2020. Bookings are now open. For more information visit  www.austrianalpsactive.com.au  or phone 0433 775 227.
