We've got some upcoming events listed below, starting with our November Open Day this Saturday! We also want to invite all members, volunteers and supporters to our Christmas Morning tea on Friday 6th December at Belmont Services Club in Carina. Details below.
B4C Sustainability Centre November Open Day
Saturday 2nd Nov, 9am-12pm.
At B4C Sustainability Centre, Cnr 1358 Old Cleveland Rd & Wright St (entrance off Wright St), Carindale.

At 9.30am there is a presentation by Professor Catherine Lovelock on BLUE CARBON. This is followed by morning tea (gold coin donation / free for members). Also enjoy a tour of our outdoor classroom and native plant nursery. Bring a book to swap at our book swap and stock up on Boomerang Bags, jam etc. (please note we're cash only - no EFTPoS sorry). No need to RSVP.

ABOUT THE GUEST SPEAKER: PROF CATHERINE LOVELOCK
Catherine is Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Queensland. Her research focuses on climate change and its impacts on coastal plant communities as well as the role of coastal wetlands in climate change mitigation or Blue Carbon. She is a member of the International Scientific Blue Carbon Working Group of The Blue Carbon Initiative. She leads projects in Australia and internationally focused on climate change adaptation, carbon sequestration and restoration of mangroves. She is lead author for the Wetlands chapter for the 2019 refinement of the IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.

innovation in restorationThe BCC Community Conservation Partnerships Program invites you to the 2019 Seeding Success Forum - Innovation in Restoration. This event explores how innovations in technology, ecology and the conservation industry can impact on our bush care practices. Speakers includes:
  • Dr. Ash Tews, CSIRO - recent trends in the use of AI technology in habitat management.
  • Stefan Hattingh, B4C Landcare Services Manager - innovative methods of rodent control in bushcare settings.
  • Jutta Godwin, Education Officer, Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network - development and implementation of a local community education program.
  • Peter Brenton, Atlas of Living Australia - development of the ALA and how it can be used as a tool to drive community engagement.
  • Dr. Sandra Tuszynska, Environment Coordinator Woodfordia - the role of fungi in soil health and ecosystem restoration.
  • Dr. Lyndall Plant, Urban Forester - innovations in quantifying and valuing the ecosystem service benefits of urban forests.
