From Julie
With Spring in the air and sun in the sky it is time for us all to be wearing suitable sun hats outside during our recess and lunch breaks, when we go to PE and other outdoor activities. Appropriate hats for school are wide brimmed hats or legionnaires caps as they provide the best protection. Being sun smart means using sun protection when the UV is 3 and above (September to April), and safe exposure for vitamin D (May to August). Thanks to all parents who have sent hats along to school and we will be ensuring all students wear their appropriate headwear at school so ‘No hat – No play’ . It is impressive to see how responsible our students are in this regard.
Term 4 will be a big term for camps, Environment Days and Bike days. Biggies will be at camp in week 3, Littlies and Grade 1s in week 6 and 2/3/4 Middlies in week 7. Please help students prepare for camps as best you can. This particularly applies to Littlies who will probably need a practice sleep over somewhere before they try staying at Orana overnight on 18 November. In order to make this a really positive experience for students, we really only want students staying overnight at Orana who have stayed away from parents successfully before – it is just not the place to try this for the first time.
Skye and Andrea B are going to be setting up a fabulous display of our students’ work at the Rosny Library next Monday. The theme will be Indigenous cultural studies and I recommend you check it out when next at the library in Rosny. Our students have revelled in their immersion in this area and their work captures something of their passion and insight.
We will also be exhibiting our 3/4 Middlies and 5/6 Biggies collaborative kelp design pieces at the Peppermint Bay Kelp Re-generation Art exhibition and auction at 6pm on Saturday 2 November (see above photo). Please come along to check out the work of the other Tasmanian artists too.
