Welcome to the October Newsletter

Having recently retired from the subcontract laser cutting industry and become a supplier into it, I am beginning to realise just how many machines, and how many competitors, there are out there. I was always aware that competition was ever-increasing but never took a broader view to attempt to put numbers to it.

Nowadays, of course, the competition takes a different form. There are not as many pure laser cutters but many more sheetmetal companies who have added a laser to their capacity lists. Either way there are lots more people involved in the industry and a lot more potential members for AILU.

AILU's recent Annual Job Shop Meeting was combined with a tour around the BMW Mini body in white

plant, where we saw 1200 robots turning out 1000 bodies a day. The meeting was informative, interesting and provided a great opportunity for networking and catching up with friends, competitors, suppliers and industry experts. Dave, and his team, should be congratulated for all their hard work. It would have been good if more industry participants had been there to experience it - let's spread the word for next year.
