A Note from Linda:

Theologians speak of the balance between theory and praxis: The word "theory" (from the Greek word meaning "viewing" or "contemplating") can refer to a way of looking at the world and statements of principles. Praxis (from the Greek word meaning "action" or "practice") is a term used for a combination of action and reflection which seeks transformation. Theory without practice is said to be empty; practice without theory is blind. This fall we have been addressing what many think of as life's "Big Questions:" What kind of human being is worth being? What kind of world is worth inhabiting? These questions have been explored within the larger context of what constitutes a flourishing life. Last Sunday we made a pivot in our inquiry—switching from theory to practice, grounding our inquiry of what constitutes a flourishing life in a concrete practice designed to help us grow not only in our awareness of God's presence in our daily lives, but also in our discernment of where and how we are being called to flourish. This Sunday we will look at a complimentary practice—a practice, anchored in ancient wisdom teachings and designed—in the true spirit of the word "practice"—to facilitate transformation. This will be a very special Sunday at our church: not only will we gather as a community and explore life's "Big Questions," but we have a special treat—an ensemble choir from Unity Church of the Hill's Inspiration choir will be singing for us. I hope you will join us! With much love, Linda

Theory without practice is said to be empty;
practice without theory is blind.

The Fun and Fellowship Committee is hosting a Freecycle event here at Church on Sunday, October 20.  Bring your unwanted but useable household items to church to offer up for free so they may be someone else’s treasure.  If you have large items, such as lawnmower or fridge, describe them on a card with your name and contact info.  The only catch, if no one loves it, you take it back home.
Look up freecyclegeorgetown.com, an online way to ask for and offer things totally for free.

UCOG Annual Meeting and Potluck

Nov. 3, 2019, after Service

Come participate in this year's Annual Meeting.  We were a little lean on main dishes for the last two Potlucks, please consider bringing a main dish to share.

We will be voting on the following:
  • Two open Board positions. Lizabeth Sackett and Dean Saulmon have stepped forward to run for the two open positions on our board. These two candidates have been vetted and approved to run by our UCOG nominating committee.
  • Approval of the appointment of Dave Jenks who was appointed to fulfill a vacant slot on the board.
  • Approval of the newly revised Bylaws which have been approved by our Board of Trustees and Unity Worldwide Ministries. Thank you to the Bylaws revision team of Eugenia Koog, Trish Phelps, and Alice Cooper! Reviewing the bylaws is required every five years and is a huge undertaking. This year included the additional task of incorporating the bylaws template recommended by Unity Worldwide Ministries. To review the By-Laws or read the minutes from last year's minutes, please click on the links below.
