Dear Church - An Evening with Rev. Lenny Duncan
Friday, November 8
7:00–9:30 p.m. at St. Bartholomew's Lutheran Church (1746 S Clinton Ave, Trenton, NJ)
Lenny Duncan is the unlikeliest of pastors. Formerly incarcerated and homeless, he is now a black preacher in the whitest denomination in the United States: The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Shifting demographics and shrinking congregations make the all headlines, but Duncan sees something else at work—drawing a direct line between the church’s lack of diversity and the church’s lack of vitality. The problems the ELCA faces are theological, not sociological. But so are the answers.
Part manifesto, part confession, and all love letter, Dear Church offers a bold new vision for the future of his denomination and the broader mainline Christian community of faith. Dear Church rejects the narrative of ‘church decline’ and calls everyone—leaders and laity alike—to the front lines of the church’s renewal through racial equality and justice. Join the Lutheran Group for a night of thought provoking conversation and challenge.

Peace Not Walls Campaign
The goal of this initiative is to: "Develop a project for use in ministry contexts that support the foci of the Peace Not Walls initiative: accompaniment, advocacy and awareness raising." Seminary students are being asked to submit projects for review. If accepted, a cash honorarium will be given to implement the project. We have discussed the idea of a podcast that engages different members of the community. If you have interest in helping out email zachary.wright@ptsem.edu. There will be a meeting tomorrow, October 15th, at 12:00pm in Mackay.

Reformation Day Activities
Each year we celebrate Reformation Day with a number of activities put on for the campus community. This year, TLG will have trivia handouts during a German themed meal put on by Sage. At 5:00p.m. we will hold the annual posting of the 95 Theses with a small address from members of our community on the global state of Lutheranism. If you would like to be involved in planning or lending a hand for these events, please email zachary.wright@ptsem.edu.
