KEY LOCAL LABOR ORGANIZATION ENDORSES WESSON FOR LA COUNTY SUPERVISOR
ATU Local 1277 Joins Growing List of Elected Officials, South Los Angeles Leaders and Labor Unions Backing Herb Wesson’s Campaign for Supervisor
Los Angeles, CA – Today, LA City Council President Herb Wesson received an influential endorsement from the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1277 in his bid to represent LA County on the Board of Supervisors. ATU Local 1277 serves thousands of transit workers including bus, van, subway, light rail and ambulance operators in the Los Angeles area. Wesson is running to replace termed-out incumbent Mark Ridley-Thomas in next year’s open election.
In a statement of support, ATU Local 1277 President Art Aguilar wrote:
“Herb Wesson has proven to be an invaluable ally in the fight to secure better working conditions, higher pay and a seat at the bargaining table. Throughout his career, he has stood with the hardworking men and women of Los Angeles County and I am confident he will continue to do so as our County Supervisor. ATU Local 1277 is proud to endorse Herb Wesson.”

For the last 30+ years, Herb Wesson has fought alongside community leaders and grassroots advocates to improve the lives of all Angelenos, as Chief of Staff to legendary LA County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, the 65th Speaker of the California State Assembly, the 1st African American President of the Los Angeles City Council and as a youth coach, mentor and father.

During his tenure as Council President, Wesson has presided over monumental policy initiatives that have made Los Angeles a better place to live, work and raise a family. These initiatives — which include raising the minimum wage, pension reform and consolidating city elections to increase voter turnout — have not only positively impacted local residents, but in many cases, sparked legislative responses at both the state and national level.

While real progress has been made in the last decade, Herb Wesson knows that there’s still more work to be done. That’s why he’s running for Los Angeles County Supervisor: to empower people and make a difference in the lives of local residents.

Herb Wesson currently lives in Los Angeles and is happily married to Fabian Wesson. They have four sons: Douglas, P.J. Herb III, and Justin Wesson.
