Hello,

First and foremost, an important release that needs a lot of support : These Are Our Friends Too, a digital compilation published by FORWARD (Foundation for Women’s Health Research and Development).

"This album is brought to you by Musicians Unite to End FGM (MUTEFGM) and Tse Tse Fly Middle East. These Are Our Friends Too is a unique album that highlights the work FORWARD does towards ending FGM (female genital mutilation). The album continues FORWARD’s These Are Our Friends project, a collection of poetry from young people from London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham that responds to the themes of FGM and its consequences. The first stage of the project resulted in a book of the same name that features more than thirty pieces of work, a short film made with Media Trust, and this new collaboration sees nineteen of the poems re-imagined.

Tse Tse Fly Middle East hand-picked a selection of female artists and musicians, and each one was given a spoken word recording of one of the poems read by members of the FORWARD team and poets from the book. The artists then composed and recorded a sonic background for their designated piece, with the resulting spoken word and experimental music compositions making up this new, nineteen-track set, These Are Our Friends Too.

The album features contributions from some of the foremost female proponents of noise from Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, Serbia, Bulgaria and Sweden, as well as UK-based collaborators. And the visceral, uncompromising and unsettling tracks that result reflect the disturbing nature of female genital mutilation." You can listen and download the album on Bandcamp.

They are now in Sikkim, India, and will cross through Assam, Nagaland, Maripur, Myanmar, Thailand (north) and are looking for possibilities to play in Chiang Mai (and more). You can check their blog here and contact them if you can provide any help.

I will give some talks and concerts in Manila (the Philippines - WSK Festival), Timișoara (Romania - Simultan Festival), Vienna (Austria - Wien Modern) and Berlin (Germany - Kottishop, due with Marie Takahashi) - as most of those event's programmes or time tables have not been clearly announced yet, I invite you to now and then check my event page to get the latest news.

Articles & interviews
Tran Kim Ngoc: a Pioneer of Experimental Music and Mixed-Media Art in Vietnam, by Raquel Guerra Aragonés.
After two years of researching local music institutions and the music community in Vietnam, Kim Ngoc established the DomDom Center for Experimental Music in 2012 in Hanoi as a non-profit and independent organization. As the first hub for contemporary music and art in Vietnam, DomDom offers innovative education programs from a contemporary perspective.   On the map of contemporary global sound art, where does the individuality of DomDom reside? Their courses focus on a multifaceted vision. The students learn through diverse tools and manners of creation and expression, from traditional music to contemporary sound art scene, as a whole process to extend their personal artistic language freely. For the Record| 'Ruptured,' the interview: A conversation with alternative pioneer Ziad Nawfal, by Chiri Choukeir.
BEIRUT: It was 1993. The official governmental station, Radio Liban, went live on air with a show named “Ruptures.” That show broadcasted alternative indie music to the Lebanese masses back when it wasn’t fashionable yet.  The man behind the decks, carefully curating the music and hosting artists for live sessions and interviews, Ziad Nawfal embarked on a journey to become one of the pioneers of the Lebanese alternative scene.  “Ruptures” transmitted the sound of local and international indie, and musicians came on air for interviews or live performances. A change of name naturally had to occur, these live sessions became known as “Ruptured Sessions,” which specifically referred to live music sessions. Read more on An-Nahar (photo by Tanya Traboulsi)
From Kuurandia to Eutopia and back. Interview with musician and composer Yuko Araki, by Uwe Schneider.
Yuko Araki is not only practised on many instruments but also experienced in many styles of music. In recent years, the Tokyo-based artist has brought to life several groups whose music ranges from acid house to doom and black metal-inspired neoclassicism to imaginary ritual folk music – a musical range to which she contributes singing, percussion, piano, miscellaneous electronics and a lot more. On her solo project, she surprises with a gruff and sober noise, which can be traced back to the tradition of compatriots such as C.C.C.C. or Government Alpha, but with two qualities that also draw from all of her previous work: a freely unleashed energy that mingles with well thought-out complexity. After a debut EP on the Indonesian Gerpfast Raw Tape Division label (and some sampler contributions like the great “Uchronia” compilation), the sequel is now soon available as a beautifully designed tape via Italian label Commando Vanessa. I dare to predict that you will hear and read of her more often in the future. read more on African Paper. Auf Deutsch. 日本語で. Photo by Tatyana Jinto Rutherston.
Satyajit Ray, stream of consciousness and existential crises: In conversation with Disco Puppet about his new album, Aranye Dinratri, by Anagha M.
When Disco Puppet broke into the scene in 2016 with his EP Spring, via Consolidate Records, his music stood out for its individualist style and introspective notes. Following this release with a TOTO Funds the Arts Award for music, a six-city China tour and two full-length albums, the Bengaluru-based artiste made his mark on the circuit. Now, Shoumik Biswas, as he is otherwise known, releases his third album Aranye Dinratri (Days and Nights in the Forest), named after 1970 Satyajit Ray film. Biswas first saw the film in 2016, after which he began to take an active interest in Ray’s works. These movies became a window into understanding his own personal history and art. The album features songs such as Fever Dream, Eh Baba! and Guess I’ll Die. As he takes off on a three--city album launch tour with Red Bull Music, we speak to the artiste about the new album, influences and his theatrical gig complete with a visual set and actors.
