Woodmoor PTSA School of Excellence Survey

The Woodmoor PTSA is participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students.

As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families, administrators and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. Your feedback will help us improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.

We need your help! Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at Woodmoor and complete the attached survey. This survey is completely anonymous.

Please complete this survey by Monday, October 28th.

If you're  interested in joining our School of Excellence committee, please email Dawn Olmsted

A message from the PTSA President

Hello Woodmoor Families:

What a great two weeks. We raised over $17,000 in gross sales during our Fall Fundraiser (Thank you!) This money goes to things like our teacher grants, Science Fair, Monster Mash and many more events and services. Thank you for helping us give Woodmoor all these enriching and fun activities. Our Kindergarten classes brought in the most for this fundraiser, Go Dolphins! I will be reaching out this week to all of the Kindergarten teachers to work out Pizza Party details.

October is Italian American Heritage Month. Between 1880-1910 over 4.5 million Italian immigrants came to the US, the majority staying in the cities on the eastern seaboard. The touch of Italian immigrants from this time is seen all over Seattle. During the Klondike gold rush, Seattle’s buildings and infrastructure was built on the backs of these immigrants, and wine making in the Walla Walla Valley began with Italian immigrant farmers in the late 1800s.

Next weekend is the start of Diwali, a five day festival of lights that celebrates the victory of good over evil and enlightenment over ignorance. This holiday originated in India thousands of years ago. Several religions observe the festival, and there are performances and celebrations that anyone can go to in the area, many of them free if you wanted to check it out.

Now for some serious stuff. Woodmoor participated in the Great Washington ShakeOut. The drill went really well with every staff member taking on a role to help keep our kids safe. If there was ever an emergency or disaster, here is what we as parent’s would need to do when picking up kids at the school:

  1. Sign out children

  • For emergencies that the building is evacuated, sign out will be at bridge that connects Woodmoor to Northshore Middle School properties. Be sure to park your car and walk down

  • For emergencies that don’t require evacuation, sign out will be in the office

  1. Show Photo ID

  • If there is no photo ID, then your child can not go home with the pick up person. If a disaster happens, in the panic, it’s important to remember your ID

  • This is a good time to double check your child’s pick up list. In a disaster, if your neighbor or a friend was able to pick up your child for you, they will not be allowed to take your child home if their name is not on your child’s pick up list.

  1. A staff runner will bring the children to sign out location

This would be a good time to go over with your children your family’s game plan in case of an emergency. If you need help knowing what would be needed, you can go to the Washington Emergency Management Division web site for great resource.

Thank you,

Dawn Olmsted
PTSA President

Boxtops for Education
You may have Boxtops that expire as soon as 11/1/19 - turn them in by Oct 25 so they can be submitted before they expire!
We are off to a fantastic start!   For the month of September, you sent in over 650 boxtops!  That comes out to over $65, and that's not including the ones collected via the new app.  If we keep this up every month, we could earn Woodmoor at least $585 over the course of the school year!  This money is used for supplies, assemblies and special events.

Box Tops for Education is phasing out clipped box tops over time, and has introduced a new scanning systemNow you can earn dollars for Woodmoor in two ways:
1.  You can still shop for products with actual box tops, clip them out, and either stick them on the collection sheet you received at the beginning of the school year, or simply put them into a zip lock bag.  Put your clips into the Box Top mailbox just inside the main doors of the school.  Thank you for not turning in expired box tops.

2.  Visit the Boxtops for Education web site and download their app.  Once you have purchased participating products, scan your receipt within 2 weeks of purchase.  After you've scanned your receipt, the system will tell you how much you've earned for Woodmoor.  Sometimes they even run double-point promotions!

Let's keep turning in those box tops -either clipped or scanned - to benefit our kids and Woodmoor!

Membership Sure is Sweet!
Our Membership Drive is going strong with E-pod in the lead! If you haven’t already become a PTSA member, join in to support your student’s classroom and recruit a friend to do the same. You can also donate a membership to a parent or a staff member.  Remember, the winning classroom will receive a sweet treat celebration hosted by PTSA!

Reflections

Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that "helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school, but in life."

Students create original works of art in response to a theme. For the 2019-2020 program year, the theme is Look Within

Woodmoor students have the opportunity to participate in the Reflections program in any of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.  Submission deadline is November 15th, 2019.
