Position:
Assistant Professor of Music Education; Tenure-track position, full time, 9-month appointment effective August 2020. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, and competitive benefits.
Qualifications:
The faculty seek a highly motivated, engaged, and creative individual who is innovative, enthusiastic, that values collaboration, equity, diversity, and inclusion in their shared work of preparing musicians for careers as educators and performers. Earned doctorate required (ABD considered if completed by start date), demonstrated mastery of string pedagogy, three or more years of successful teaching in secondary schools, and experience conducting university-level string orchestra or full orchestras as well. Teaching expertise in Music Theory. String studio teaching possible if desired.
Position Expectations:
Expectations include a standard of 18 teaching load credits per year, creative or scholarly output appropriate to departmental tenure/merit criteria, service to community and profession, participation in annual reviews until promoted and tenured, and other duties such as campus committee service, teaching independent studies, student advising, or observing of student teachers.

The cover letter should address how applicants recruit and retain quality students, their ability to work effectively with other institutional units, potential for developing and maintaining a creative and/or scholarly profile, communicate a vision for effective community and campus outreach, and a record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with public school music educators. Successful interview, demonstration of ability during an orchestra rehearsal, classroom teaching of Music Theory, and performance ability may be required (if studio teaching is desired). UT/Permian Basin, a campus of the prestigious University of Texas System, enrolls about 7,500 students and is located in the heart of the nation's largest domestic oil and gas production region. Musical ensembles of the region are among some of the oldest and strongest public school programs in Texas, many of whom have won national honors. UTPB confers the Bachelor of Music degree with EC-12 music certification in Texas. An NASM member, Conn-Selmer School, and an All-Steinway School located in the $90 million Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center, the Music Department and the Wagner Noël is a hub of musical activity for the region.
