NEW INITIATIVE

Community Conversations Planning for the 250th Commemoration of the Founding of the United States – How Can Your Community Take Part?

RW250 was pleased to have joined with community members and government officials in September in the Town of Cortlandt, organized by the Historic Resources Advisory Committee, Chair Michele Robbins, and in October with the Town of Yorktown, organized by the Landmark Preservation Commission Chair, Lynn Briggs. In both communities, a short slide presentation by RW250 President Constance Kehoe was followed by a facilitated community conversation about the 250th. Cortlandt’s Supervisor Linda Puglisi and Yorktown’s Supervisor Ilan Gilbert joined the conversations.

What is Revolutionary Westchester 250? Read about our mission at www.RW250.org

In July 2016 the Congress of the United States passed and President Obama signed Public Law 114-196, the "United States Semiquincentennial Commission Act of 2016." This law’s purpose was to:

...Establish a Commission to provide for the observance and commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and related events through local, state, national, and international activities planned, encouraged, developed, and coordinated by a national commission representative of appropriate public and private authorities and organizations.

Revolutionary Westchester 250, Inc. We have been organized as a not-for-profit corporation under New York Law and are in the process of applying for tax-exempt status as a charity. We strive to further the purpose of the Semiquincentennial Commission by providing for the observance and commemoration of Westchester County’s pivotal role, in American Independence and in the Revolutionary War.
