Hello Fleurieu Lovers,

Last time I wrote, I was headed to the US with a group of operators from across our SA.Team SA corralled by Ernst and Martin from the SATC visited 5 cities in 8 days; 6 hotels; 17, 800+ kilometres; and 24-hours+ sitting in planes, buses, airports. Meeting over 100 individual buyers and media, all of this AHEAD of a gruelling tradeshow in Manhattan Beach where another 93 scheduled appointments were completed. Presentations, training and networking took place with a view to land some of North America's $83 million in expenditure in SA. This market is growing and it's my duty to bring awareness of the wonders of the Fleurieu Peninsula to these trade buyers.

A few weeks later, I attended Tourism Australia's South East Asia Marketplace (tradeshow) in Kuala Lumpur with 85 presentations followed by a brief roadshow on the way home via Singapore to present to 40 retail agents. Yep. Good-bye voice.

Some of you know how unglamorous these shows really are, and then there's the follow-up, on returning home. The bedding down and relationship building is often years in the making before we see a return as is the lead time for the travel trade to build itineraries, understandably many businesses choose to stick with the domestic market only. So I'm ecstatic to have already received requests for itineraries post the shows and both USA and SE Asia have shown a great interest in our region. Keep up the great work, you make it an easy place to sell!

And what about our fabulous 19, yes 19 Fleurieu finalists in the SA Tourism Awards? Got a nice ring to it ... Fleurieu finalists. We have quite a few that are first-timers and last year, a few first-timers won. Woohoo! Congratulations also to our neighbouring regions who also have finalists in the mix. Adelaide is such a great city, and the combination of city and regions must make our state so proud.

You've seen the numbers are out for the IVS and NVS... Fleurieu again topping the visitation at 768,000 and expenditure at $476 million to June 2019. These are hard earnt numbers and all of our regions are working just as hard to earn the title. Keep the focus.

Much to catch up on, so I need to run. Lots of awards (and congratulations to everyone who has won something recently... we are such a region of winners, the newsletter goes into overload once I try to comment in detail), events and activities in region, so keep an eye on social media.

See you on the merry-go-round.

Warm Regards,
Nat Kirby  😎
