First Annual New Plastics Economy Global Commitment Progress Report

The first New Plastics Economy Global Commitment progress report has been launched at the Our Ocean Conference in Oslo and provides an unprecedented level of transparency on how almost 200 businesses and governments are reshaping the plastics system. We’re pleased to welcome a new cohort of signatories since our last update in June - see the full list here.

Launched last year, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme, the Global Commitment has now been signed by more than 400 organisations, all united behind a common vision of a circular economy for plastic, in which it never becomes waste or pollution.

Take part in the conversation on social media with #globalcommitment, share the report with your network, and encourage even more businesses and governments to sign up to the Global Commitment.

New Plastics Economy Core Partners
The New Plastics Economy is an ambitious initiative to build momentum towards a plastics system that works. Applying the principles of the circular economy, it brings together leading companies, cities, philanthropists, policymakers, academics, students, NGOs, and citizens to re-think and re-design the future of plastics, starting with packaging.

We are pleased to welcome Borealis, Nestlé, and Walmart as New Plastics Economy Core Partners.
Reuse book in Chinese
Earlier this year, we published our Reuse book, which provides a framework to understand reuse models, identifies six major benefits of reuse, and maps 69 reuse examples. The Chinese version of the book has been launched this month at the China Packaging Innovation Forum in Shanghai.

Are you working on a reuse model or an upstream innovation that can help the transition to a circular economy for plastic? Get in touch with us or use #ReuseRevolution on social media.

Plastics Pact network

The Plastics Pact is a network of national or regional initiatives which bring together key stakeholders to implement locally tailored solutions towards a circular economy for plastics. Each Plastics Pact is led by a local partner organisation that connects businesses, governments, and NGOs to work towards a set of ambitious 2025 targets.

The UK Plastics Pact, led by WRAP, the French Pacte National sur les emballages plastiques, led by ConsultantSeas, and the Chilean Circula El Plástico, led by Fundación Chile, are the first national initiatives within the Foundation’s Plastics Pact network. Other implementation initiatives are set to follow soon - watch this space
