The HEA strongly objects to the proposed removal of provisional registration. Automatic granting of provisional registration provides protection for vulnerable children who need to be withdrawn from schools due to a a number of reasons including bullying, anxiety and depression. Provisional registration also encourages engagement with the registration process.
The HEA calls for the reinstatement of the protective automatic initial granting of registration that home educators in the ACT have had for many years. The HEA also calls for removal of the proposed Home Base requirements and the removal of the phrase “any condition prescribed by regulation”.
The proposed changes were tabled two years ago and the HEA is disappointed that in that time the full home education community were not consulted with and it is only now being rushed through, the week before the bill is to be debated.
The HEA encourages you to write to your local MLAs, asking for better consultation before making changes.
Please pass on this information to other home educators in the ACT and turn up to one of the meetings.
Thank you for your assistance in this vital matter.
