AWANA PARENTS NEWSLETTER

Our exciting October continues at the Capital Baptist AWANA Club

We are off to a great start for this year's AWANA program. Our leaders are excited to welcome our returning Clubbers and new Clubbers for the 2019-20 AWANA Club year and there's more fun to come in the month of October. Our Balloon Bash Night will be this Sunday, October 20 and our first AWANA Store of the year will be on Sunday, October 27.

On AWANA Store nights, our Clubbers in the Sparks and T&T groups will be able to spend the AWANA Shares they have earned this year. AWANA Shares are earned for Bible verse memorization, coming to AWANA prepared, bringing friends to AWANA, and other positive choices. Clubbers in the Puggles and Cubbies groups also receive a small reward for their hard work.

The store is filled with items that kids love and is made possible by a portion of the registration fees, the church budget, and toy donations. This will be the first AWANA Store of the year, but your Clubbers may also want to save their shares for other AWANA Store nights during the year including our Holiday Store in December which is a great opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for members of the family or friends. You can learn more about the AWANA Store at awanacapitalbaptist.org/events/awana-store/.

The Commander's Corner

We're so grateful the shipment of books and uniforms arrived this past week, as AWANA International recovered from their distribution process being overwhelmed. Thanks SO much for your patience throughout the delay. We're hoping future shipments will be more timely and when possible we'll place orders early to lessen waiting time.

We've completed our first four weeks of the club year, most children have earned their books and many are already earning awards for completing memory verse {and for T&T Bible study) sections. We hope that you will encourage your child's study and growth - perhaps making a set period of time each day to work on their lesson(s) part of your child's daily routine. Don't forget, there are opportunities in each age group to actively engage with your child in Bible memory and discussion. You can find all the details in the CBC AWANA policy handbook and the Director's memos. Don't hesitate to ask any questions of the club's Director.
Early in October we began our annual AWANA Global Outreach campaign. Children have already begun returning the tubes full of quarters ($10) to provide a child in another part of the world with the opportunity to attend AWANA for year. AWANA partners with local churches around the globe to provide materials, basic equipment and leader training to ensure a time of fun and discipleship, no matter where the club may be.
REMINDER
Don't forget to bring back the CBC AWANA policy handbook acknowledgement form found on the last page of the handbook as well as your child's "about me" form. Please turn them in to the registration table at check in.

Keeping our Clubbers safe with KidsCheck!®

At Capital Baptist we are using KidCheck® to partner with you to keep your children safe while they participate in our programs. KidCheck® is a national program that we use for our activities including church services, sports and other activities.

Your KidCheck® account is completely free and can be set up on a computer or mobile device via the website at go.kidcheck.com or via the KidCheck® mobile apps available from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The enrollment process is simple and only takes a few minutes. Once you have enrolled in KidCheck® you can check your children in or out using the mobile app, scan your barcode tag, or enter your phone number at our check in / check out kiosks.

For each AWANA Club session a name tag will be printed for you and your child. This will require you to walk in with your child. We will require your children to wear their name tag during AWANA and we ask that you have yours when you pick them up. If you send someone else to pick up your child, they must have your KidCheck® phone number and your name tag (barcode), if possible.

If you have any questions about the KidCheck® program at Capital Baptist, please contact Mike Eicher, Capital Baptist Children and Family Ministries Director, by email at meicher@capitalbaptist.org or by phone at (703) 817-6193 or Norah Harmon, Capital Baptist AWANA Club Commander, by email at nharmon@capitalbaptist.org at (703) 200-8677.
