  Seeking Mock Interviewers

Calling all volunteers! Apollo and Tech High Schools are offering mock job interviews for junior and senior students as part of the school curriculum, and college and career preparation. The mock interviews will take place on either Tuesday, Oct. 22 or Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Apollo or Tech classrooms. The interviews are part of a business or writing class taught by District 742 high school teachers Kenneth Blattner and Derek Miller.

To make the assignment more authentic, we rely on volunteers from our business community and partner organizations to conduct the mock interviews. We appreciate your contributions to making it successful by providing a real-world learning experience for District 742 students! Learn more.

Tech Recognizes Hall of Fame Recipients

Tech High School, founded in 1917, is well known for its great athletic and activities tradition. In 1986, Tech decided it was time to begin to recognize the contributions and achievements of the individuals that have helped develop “Tiger Pride!" Through the formation of the Tech Hall of Fame, our community and school have been able to begin to accomplish this goal.

Recognizing outstanding alumni not only gives us the opportunity to pay tribute to those who helped establish Tech traditions but also gives current students knowledge of their school’s outstanding history- and a challenge to continue those traditions.

The eighth induction to Tech’s Hall of Fame was held on October 10, 2019. View the program to see the scheduled events for the Hall of Fame induction and the biographies of the 16 inductees and three special recognition honorees. View the photo gallery

  From PAKRAT to PAKCAT

The PAKRAT (Parent and Kids Reading A-Lot Together) program has been a successful initiative in St. Cloud Area School District for several years. It’s now exciting to be introducing PAKCAT (Parents and Kids Counting A-Lot Together) to District 742 families. The PAKCAT program focuses on enhancing student math skills.

The idea began a few years ago with Melissa Hanzsek-Brill, math professor at St. Cloud State University, whose expertise is pre-K through grade eight mathematics. Years ago, she worked with District 742 to write a grant with United Way to start a program for math. However, the expanse of the grade levels (K-8) and cost of the project was an issue, so she tucked away the idea. It still remained a dream she wanted to achieve.

“I’ve been working with the District since 1997 and I’m also a parent. … What I’ve noticed is there has been a lot of … emphasis on reading. We have a library. We have PAKRAT. Just a lot of initiatives that are very much needed. There just weren’t a lot of math initiatives. … There is a lot of talk about the math scores, especially with the state scores going down [this year].”

Hanzsek-Brill’s old idea to create outreach and engagement with parents and their students around math was nagging her. Continue reading.

  LEAF Learning Renaissance

The Ninth Annual Learning Renaissance will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the Cafe Renaissance in Waite Park.

The “Learning Renaissance” supports academics in St Cloud Area schools and financial support for the LEAF Academic Fund. LEAF is thrilled to announce that they have received a $10,000 match for the Fund-a-Need auction, which will focus on partnering with District 742 to provide needed supplies and materials for the District’s EL Programs. Join us for a great evening of socializing with others who support public education while dining on regional foods and fine wine from the Mediterranean. Many attendees consistently tell us that this is their favorite fundraising event of the year because it is such a unique event!

Tickets are $75 per person. Buy tickets now
