WINTER 2020 ACADEMIC

Greetings from InterVarsity Press

Classes have resumed at universities and graduate schools, which means our newest books are making their way into the hands of students as they thoughtfully engage their fields in philosophy, science, psychology, and more. Many of these titles find their beginnings at fall academic conferences, and even now, our editors are preparing to meet with current and future authors, share our books with professors, and learn about the latest findings in theological research and academia. We look forward to the many insights these events will provide to help us better serve the academy.

You'll find great stand-alone titles in our academic catalog, as well as new additions to the Introductions in Seven Sentences (ISS), Essential Studies in Biblical Theology (ESBT), and New Explorations in Theology (NET) series. Don't miss our interview with Joshua Rasmussen, author of How Reason Can Lead to God, as well as a sneak preview inside The Story Retold, an introduction to the New Testament with a unique approach written by Benjamin Gladd and G. K. Beale.

The Story Retold

The Story Retold

by G. K. Beale and Benjamin L. Gladd

Israel's story is the church's story. In this integrative introduction to the New Testament, G. K. Beale and Benjamin L. Gladd explore each New Testament book in light of the broad history of redemption, emphasizing the biblical-theological themes of each New Testament book. Their distinctive approach will encourage readers to read the New Testament in light of the Old, not as a new story but as a story retold.

Bearing God's Name

Bearing God's Name

by Carmen Joy Imes

What does the Old Testament—especially the law—have to do with your Christian life? In this warm, accessible volume, Carmen Joy Imes takes readers back to Sinai, arguing that we've misunderstood the command about "taking the Lord's name in vain." Instead, Imes says that this command is really about "bearing God's name," a theme that continues throughout the rest of Scripture.

From Adam and Israel to the Church

From Adam and Israel to the Church

by Benjamin L. Gladd

This ESBT volume addresses core questions about spiritual identity, examining the nature of the people of God from Genesis to Revelation through the lens of being created and formed in God's image. Benjamin Gladd argues that living out God's image means serving as prophets, priests, and kings, and he explains how God's people function in these roles throughout Scripture.
