On Saturday, November 2, leave the 21st century behind at the First State Heritage Park's 18th Century Market Fair, which recreates the sights and sounds of the autumn market fairs held on The Green in Dover in the mid-1700s. Watch demonstrations of traditional trades and crafts like glass making, woodworking, blacksmithing, and spinning. 18th-century-style music and dancers add to the period atmosphere! Learn more »

Teaching Programs

Teachers, are you looking for a more hands-on experience for your class? State Parks interpreters, whether in the parks or at your school, connect classroom learning to real-life examples, creating space for students to observe and investigate the world around them. Remember that park interpreters can come to you – no bus required! We provide learning resources throughout the year in many content areas. Meet military heroes from Fort Delaware, Fort Miles, and First State Heritage Park or discover the science behind changing seasons and the animals who have adapted to them — looking for something specific? Our interpreters can create custom programs for learners at all grade levels and align experiences to the needs of individual groups of students. Delaware State Parks bring your lessons to life.  Learn more »

November Night Hikes

Bundle up and explore your favorite park in a whole new way. As the moon comes up and crickets begin to chirp, walk with an interpreter, and learn about the sights and sounds of the evening. Look up and learn about constellations, moon phases, or enjoy star gazing! Catch a glimpse of Delaware’s owls while you won’t disturb them; towards the end of the month, they will be finished mating for the season. November may also be your last chance to see crepuscular and nocturnal animals that hibernate, including bats and skunks, which are most active at dusk and dawn. Learn more »

We limit the tours to 12 people, and registration is required! Call our park office at (302)-729-4278 to register or offer any questions you might have about the tour.
