AMRC welcomes NHSX 'AI: How to get it right' report
This week NHSX published a new report providing a helpful and comprehensive outline of where technology can be used in the NHS and the policy work required to ensure it is done safely, effectively and ethically. AMRC released a statement welcoming the report.

Charity impact front and centre
Last week saw the CF Trust’s campaigning come to fruition, when two life-extending drugs for cystic fibrosis were made available on the NHS. Versus Arthritis-funded ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Pain’ app found a link between weather and arthritis pain, helping researchers understand the complexity of pain caused by arthritis and how people can take control of it.

CRUK invests in global cancer collaboration
Cancer Research UK has joined a new £55 million partnership called the The International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED) that aims to revolutionise research in the early detection of cancers by bringing together world leading researchers and placing patients at the heart of research.

Report calls for dropping 'apocalyptic' language on AMR
When talking about drug-resistant infections, the language you use is crucial. The Wellcome Trust has released a report and toolkit with key recommendations on how to communicate more powerfully to help the public understand and support action on this issue.

Driving biomedical innovation
FasterCures has created a new advisory group 'Changemakers: Disruptive Philanthropy for Patients', bringing together 22 CEOs, including our very own Aisling Burnand, to lead the movement to make philanthropy and patient-driven organisation key players in driving biomedical innovation.

UKRI's next steps for tackling bullying and harrassment
UK Research and Innovation’s new position statement outlines its next steps to tackle bullying and harassment across the sector. UKRI-funded organisations will be expected to follow the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service's ‘Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace: A Guide for Managers and Employers’.

General election to take place in December
Following the extension of the Brexit deadline to 31 January 2020, Prime Minister Johnson has abandoned the Withdrawal Agreement Bill and introduced legislation to hold a general election on 12 December. The formal election period is due to begin 7 November. Next week's Budget has also been cancelled.

Government responds to university research funding report
In response to the Lords Science and Technology Committee’s report, government highlighted the importance of quality-related research funding, and recommitments to the 2.4% investment target and to association with Horizon Europe. AMRC will be monitoring the UKRI's review into balanced funding and government’s expected response to the Augar Review of higher education funding. 

Have your say on NHS Research Scotland networks
The Chief Scientist Office has set up a 10-question survey to gather views of stakeholders on their experience of working with NHS Research Scotland’s 26 networks, which support the delivery of clinical studies. The responses from this survey will help inform the CSO’s review of the networks. The survey will close on 10 December 2019.
