Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

Next Monday we will be holding our annual Veterans Day Assembly at EGRMS. The staff and students are honored to invite and host all of the brave men and women of our community who are currently serving or have served in the Armed Forces of our country. Veterans or their families are still able to RSVP here and are invited to attend a short reception after the assembly. We still have a few spots open for students to be able to participate in the assembly by sharing a short story about a veteran in their life. If your child is interested in participating, please email me at jdykhous@egrps.org or have them stop in the office to see me.

The EGRMS Robotics team is also collecting donations for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans over the next week. Wish list items include: body wash, alcohol-free mouthwash, disposable razors, toothbrushes, K-cups for Keurig machines, large boxes of tissues and new men's and women's clothing. There is a collection box in the main lobby of the middle school for donations.

Congratulations to our robotics team! The EGRMS Robotics team had a strong showing at their first competition this past Saturday at East Kentwood. They went into the semifinals in 7th place, won 1st place in the Think Award (based on their engineering notebook), and took 3rd place for the Control Award category. Stacy Paul, one of the team's mentors, also won the Compass Award, which is given to only one mentor at the entire event. Stacy was
nominated by the team as recognition of her contributions to the team. Congratulations to the whole team! The students all worked very well together and showed gracious professionalism in all aspects of the day.

Sincerely,
Jeff Dykhouse
Principal

At the high school this year, there’s something new under the sun, in the snow, in the water, and on the streets. Last fall, thanks to our donors, the Foundation was able to fund a grant to help launch a Gone Boarding class taught by high school Art teacher Terry Szpieg. In the class, students learn STEAM concepts as they design and build their own surfboards, snowboards, and skateboards. Interested in learning more? Read the article on the Foundation’s website, egrsf.org.
