Community Development

Code enforcement is always a hot topic so we thought we’d share an updated version of a code enforcement presentation from a Community Outreach session held last year.

In a nutshell, code enforcement is made up of:
  • City Council
  • Code Enforcement Officers
  • Code Enforcement Board or Special Magistrate
  • The Community
Florida Statutes, specifically Chapter 162, dictate code enforcement procedures:
Local government code enforcement boards and code or ordinance enforcement procedures are intended to promote, protect, and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens... impose administrative fines and other non-criminal penalties to provide an equitable, expeditious, effective, and inexpensive method of enforcing any codes and ordinances. Additionally, code enforcement procedures are also dictated by the City’s Code of Ordinances.

Hearings and due process:
Requires that enforcement boards and the State respect all legal rights that are owed to a person. Due process balances the power of law of the land and also protects the individual.

As always should you have a code enforcement concern feel free to contact code enforcement directly at (321) 868-1220.
