November 2019

Yesterday, on November 5, 2019, Coast Funds and the Province announced Renewable Energy for Remote Communities: a new program for us to collaborate with 11 First Nations making investments that transition remote communities’ fossil fuel-dependent electrical grids to renewable energy sources in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii.

We are emailing you as you lead or work for an eligible community under this new investment initiative (
see media release for list of 11 eligible First Nations). We would very much like to talk with you about your First Nation’s renewable energy plans and efforts to shift away from reliance on diesel to power your community’s electricity. We have the next two months before the application deadline in January 2020 to collaborate with you towards preparing applications for the first call for proposals for this new program. Can we arrange a call with you?

Please reply to this email, or contact Ashley Hardill, Director, Project Investment with Coast Funds, at
ashley@coastfunds.ca or 604-684-0223 ext 5. Ashley will be proactively reaching out to every eligible First Nation this month to begin conversations about renewable energy and interest in this new program we look forward to speaking with you soon!
