PHNEE has spent the past two years working to understand the ways inequity is created and sustained in our schools.  While there are many, complicated factors involved, with the help of Act.tv, we created this video to highlight what we see as the major challenges:

1 - School capacities and boundaries aren't aligned 
2 - School choice has unintended consequences
3 - The school rating system (SPF) is flawed
4 - School funding is based on enrollment

We hope this video provides a starting point for conversations about solutions.  To that end, we are planning a number of community engagement sessions over the next several months to discuss these issues  We also have created a form, where anyone can give feedback.  With what we learn from these sessions, we are hoping to come up with creative, community driven, solutions to ensure that each of our schools is able to provide the type of education our kids deserve.

If you don't read the Greater Park Hill News, you may have missed our monthly column written by PHNEE member, Erin Pier.  She has tackled many issues that directly affect equity in our schools.  From defining equity, to the impacts of toxic stress on kids, to standardized tests, to the impact on Hallett Academy of not having a boundary, to the impacts of implicit bias in our classrooms.
