Thank you to those who took the time to join us at our AGM. For those who missed out, here is a short recap.

A YEAR IN REVIEW - APRIL 2018 - MARCH 2019

RESCUE IS HARD

It’s hard to see them arrive

Whether they’re battered, abandoned, or starving.

Sometimes, it’s just as hard to see them leave, even to the best of homes.

A rescuer's most selfless quality is to make room

To save another, regardless of how it hurts to say goodbye

We delivered a total of 52 kennels and erected 9 fences, all thanks to the generosity of great supporters!

TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
It’s not for money, it’s not for fame, and it’s not for any personal gain.
It’s just for the love of man’s best friend.
To lend a helping hand
It’s not for medals but for feeling deep inside, that reward down in your heart.
It’s feeling that you’ve been a part of helping those in need
That’s what makes you a volunteer.
We value you – Thank you for your service!

KAWS CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
We have some wonderful items that we are raffling in support of KAWS and tickets are R5 each - which is a small amount to pay for the chance of winning one of our great prizes.  One of the prizes is a scrumptious hamper worth over R1,000 put together and donated by Dream Properties Knysna, and we are very grateful for their continued support for our cause.
Other items in the raffle are a 2 night stay at Eastbrook River Lodge for 2 people worth R1,800, a stunning chocolate ganache cake made and donated by Claire Louise Miller Dixon, a cuddly dog bed and comforter from Top Dogs, a wine cooler and 3 bottles of wine and a beautiful hand-crocheted King bed sized blanket.

We will be selling tickets outside Spar in the Knysna Mall on 1 & 2 November, and at the LI Festival on 9 & 10 November so don’t miss out – come and visit us and try your luck!
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

The Leisure Isle Festival takes place on 9 & 10 November and  Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) Christmas Gifts Stall at the Leisure Isle Festival will once again sell cleverly revamped, affordable gifts to raise funds.  Many regular visitors to the festival think of it as a one-stop Christmas shop!

Using donations and upscaled items and unwanted gifts, our band of volunteers will work hard in the next 2 weeks to mix and match items to wrap and decorate so that they can become the perfect gifts to sell on our stall. We have great fun creating these works of art and even greater fun selling them!  Last year the stall raised over R23,000 towards KAWS fundraising and we hope to be as successful this year.
We do need your help though to reach this goal. We’re still looking for items that we can use as gifts, either alone or match with something else, so we would appreciate if you could have once last look in the depths of your cupboards to see if there is anything you are willing to donate to us for this event.
The sort of things we need are unused toiletries and makeup, gently used kitchen items, jewelry, crockery, glassware, table linen, ornaments, scarves and pashminas, children’s toys and books and men’s gifts – we can use them all. So it’s now an ideal time to clear out LAST year’s unused Christmas gifts to make space for this year!
If you have anything that you feel might be useful to us, please contact either Cathie on 083 291 7967 or Elaine on 082 360 4580. This is a separate initiative from the charity shop donations and we need the goods elsewhere, so please contact us and we will be happy to arrange collection. Alternatively, you can drop items off at the Trellidor offices on Main Road for us.
Don’t forget to visit us at stall 24 at the Leisure Island Festival to see what we do with your donations! We will also be selling the 2020 KAWS calendars and KAWS branded gifts.
AND A LITTLE SOMETHING SWEET…
As well as Christmas gifts, we also sell small dishes and containers of homemade fudge and biscuits at the Christmas stall which are very popular. This year though, our merry band of bakers is very few in number and we’d really love some extra donations of sweet goodies that we can repackage and sell on. If you would like to make and bake items for us, or just donate something that we can use, again please contact Cathie on 083 291 7967 or Elaine on 082 360 4580.
We’ll need these sweet treats by 7 November so that they are ready and fresh for us to package for the Festival.
Thank you to all our supporters and members, we can only go from strength to strength with your support

I was born with the drive to fulfill needs – that is my job to assist God’s creatures…

I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning or selection.

I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.

I have hugged some vicious and afraid.

I have fallen in love a thousand times.

And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count.

I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends.

I don’t often use the word “pet”

I notice those lost on the roadside my heartaches.

I want to live forever if there aren’t animals in Heaven,

But I believe there are.

Some may think we are masters of the animals,

But the animals have mastered themselves…..

Something people still haven’t learned.

Rescue gives me hope for mankind.

I am an Animal Rescuer.

My work is never done.

My home is never quiet.

My wallet is always empty,

But my heart is always full.
