Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework

To support contractors engage with the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) we will be sending a weekly communication every Friday to highlight key milestones and activities. Following your feedback we will also be breaking the tasks into smaller sections to make this more manageable. With the amount of activity needed it is going to be really important that you don’t delay and complete tasks every week.

Men’s Health Campaign 1-30th November 2019 Webinar

The Greater Manchester Healthcare Academy are holding a webinar for the Mandatory Men’s Health Campaign, the Webinar is on 31st October 2019 at 7:30pm, click here to register.

It will cover subjects such as Aortic Aneurism Screening (AAA), cancer prevention, mental health and suicide prevention.

Smartcard access

We have been made aware that a number of contractors and locums have faced challenges in obtaining smartcards and appropriate access, particularly multi-site (FFFFF code). We have worked with the RA in simplifying the process for pharmacists who live within the Greater Manchester LPC localities; Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside & Glossop, Trafford, and Wigan. Pharmacists who live outside of these localities will need to contact their local RA directly.

Under the new CPCF, it is imperative that pharmacists have the appropriate access to deliver services such as CPCS where SCR access is vital in assessing patient’s suitability for the emergency supply element of the service and clinical assessment in the minor conditions element. To this end GMLPC is working to support the workforce in removing any barriers to delivery. Click here for further information

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has launched a campaign, in partnership with the charity Pharmacist Support, which calls for all pharmacists to have access to services to support their mental health and wellbeing. A first step in the campaign is a survey for pharmacists across all settings. The results build on the Pharmacist Support research and will form a report which will be used to identify areas where additional support and intervention might be needed. The report will be presented to Government. Community pharmacists are encouraged to take part in the survey which is available here.

SSP01 Fluoxetine 10mg capsule expired: Urgent actions required by pharmacy teams

On 3rd October 2019 it was announced that the Secretary of State had authorised three SSPs to help manage the supply of some formulations of Fluoxetine. These SSPs were put in place to manage stock and to try to ensure that fewer patients have to return to their prescriber.

Following the successful implementation of SSP01 DHSC has announced that sufficient stock of Fluoxetine 10mg capsules is now available to supply normal demand; as a result the SSP01 for Fluoxetine 10mg capsules has been withdrawn from 23.55 Friday 25th October 2019. Any prescriptions for fluoxetine 10mg capsules after this date must be dispensed in accordance with the prescription, as the SSP will no longer be valid for use.

The SSPs SSP02: Fluoxetine 30mg capsule and SSP03: Fluoxetine 40mg capsule remain in place and are currently due to expire on 31st October 2019. This expiry date may be changed, and the content may be amended throughout this period. Pharmacists should ensure they are using the current version of an SSP before supplying an alternative product. Current versions of SSPs can be found here.
