Preparing a Future for Pinball Wizards
Back in 2012, a nine-year-old in California spent his summer building an elaborate arcade from found objects and cardboard. The short movie made about his story served as inspiration for these 6th-grade Flex students. They are following the path of Caine's Arcade and creating a pinball machine mostly made with cardboard. In groups, students came up with themes for their devices and researched how they work. As a class, the group got started by watching videos because some students had never experienced a pinball machine.

Things are about to Get Real...Tall!
Since the last day of school 2019, the new George Mason High School project has moved in nearly every direction but one. First, the big dig down, then the foundation moved out with walls constructed around.
Soon the project will move UP in a big way! The first loads of steel for the building's superstructure have arrived. Steel Top Out is in February of 2020.

A Break from Routine
Rewarding Positive Behaviors
Seventh-grade students participated in their first Bark Buck cash-in! Students earn Bark Bucks for being safe, respectful, and responsible Huskies and are then able to "cash-in" for fun rewards. One such bonus this month was trick-or-treating around the school for festive treats and goodies. Awesome costumes, Huskies!
Meanwhile...
On a hillside across Haycock, this class of Mt. Daniel first graders below earned a compliment party for receiving 35 compliments as a group and as individuals. They chose the reward of wearing costumes to school.
Both "rewards" are part of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs in place in FCCPS schools. The programs recognize and reward positive student behavior. TJ has Tiger Stripes, and Mason students are recognized for "MBC," how they exhibit Mason's traits for mind, body, and character.

Robotics Competes in Pre-Season
This Saturday, GM's Robotics team 1418 will compete at Battlefield High School at the annual preseason event called IROC. This event is the perfect time for new team members to drive last year's robot and experience Robotics competitions. This one-day event also serves on team bonding, with the group's longstanding focus on cooperation and gracious professionalism.
Support the Team by heading to Mason's parking area on Haycock and purchasing a pumpkin or two, or more, from their stand! Proceeds go a long way toward defraying the team's expenses for the upcoming season.
