Welcome to Friday WC Surf SC!

This weekend is full of soccer activities in all of our programs.  It is the final week of the regular season for most age groups in our Recreation Program.  We have our U14 girls and boys teams playing in the end of season Walnut Tournament (schedule below), and we are hosting our annual competitive program's Creek Cup Octoberfest Bronze Level Tournament for U9-U12 girls and boys teams.  We also have several competitive teams playing in out of town tournaments all over the NorCal Premier region.  Check out the schedules below and come support your teams!

We would also like to address the current fire situation up North in Sonoma County.  We are thankful for all of the first responders, and our hearts go out to all those affected by the fires.  Because our local air quality may be impacted later today and through the weekend, we are monitoring AQI ratings closely and will notify all programs if there are any changes made to practices, league games or tournaments.  Our communication path will include club email blasts as well as social media.  Please be advised we will only send messaging IF there are changes to our scheduling due to the smoke--no news is good news!  If we have to modify or cancel, please know these decisions are never taken lightly as we conduct a thorough review, including collaboration among multiple Club officials.  We will work to make a decision in accordance with our Club air quality protocol and always in the best interests of player safety.

Lastly, we have two important reminders carried over from last week.

Our annual Club Service Award is now open for nominations! This will be our 3rd annual service award recognition and a way the club membership can recognize a parent or youth volunteer that goes beyond the norm while providing our club the service our players so deserve.  If you have anyone to nominate, please see below and complete the nomination form.

High School soccer kicks off in early November!  Our club will continue to support the dozen or more high school's who have WC Surf competitive and select players trying out during high school tryout week.  Our WC Surf teams will not have scheduled training the week of November 4th so our players can concentrate on their high school tryouts and avoid over training.  Good luck to all of our HS age players in the coming weeks.
Our Club is currently collecting nominations for the Annual Club Service Award to recognize an individual volunteer who has made a significant impact to the club. Please nominate anyone whom you feel exemplifies the WCSSC mission to enrich the community by developing athletes with a strong foundation of skills to play at any level, providing our players and families an environment that focuses on teaching life lessons, and building a love for soccer.

Click here to make your nomination

We will be accepting nominations until Monday, November 11th. The winner and recipient will be recognized at the AGM Meeting on November 14th.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING NEXT MONTH! Please join us in attending the Annual General Meeting on Thursday, November 14th at 6:30pm in the Civic Park Auditorium.

Community News
Bay Area College Soccer is fully in season.  Our club will be promoting several schools and games during the fall season to support community college soccer, learn from the high level played, and have fun as a team and club together.  We also have several WC Surf Coaches who are also college coaches.  Our club Director of Coaching, Adam Cooper, is the Head Men’s Coach at Saint Mary's College and was named the 2018 National college coaching staff of the year. His team was the only undefeated D1 team in the country tying their quarterfinal NCAA playoff but not advancing in penalty kicks. We also have Sissi, an Asst. Coach at Solano College, and Kai Edwards, Asst. Coach at Cal Berkeley, women's team. Here's a link to the local Bay Area college teams for easy reference.

Referee Program
American sports has rules in baseball, football, basketball and many other sports.  But did you know the soccer world wide goes by the term "Laws of the Game"?  The sport of soccer, world wide, is governed by FIFA which stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association. In English, the translation is: International Federation of Association Football.  Within the Laws of the Game, there's another association that governs how the game is managed by the referees, they are called The International Football Association Board (IFAB).  There were several changes and modifications to the Laws of the Game recently, for those of you interested, check out these links for interesting reading and to broaden your knowledge of the game.

2019/20 Laws of the Game

Mobile App Laws of the Game

To note: WC Surf SC has programs that are locally, regionally and nationally governed.  The Laws of the Game, and modified rules, are then applied to various age groups in our recreation and competitive programs.  Not all age groups have the exact same Laws of the Game or rule modifications.  Check with your Coach or email us if you have questions.

And be sure to THANK A REF when you are out there this weekend!
COMMUNITY SERVICE REMINDER
As a gentle reminder, please be reminded about posted signs while visiting our local schools and city parks.  Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Parent Sideline (Education)
Our intention of this section is to offer resources to our parents on methods, ideas, and stories about great ways to be a support while enjoying how your son or daughter plays this beautiful game!  The groups listed have no association with our club, yet we find them informative, helpful, and impactful.

Check the links out at your convenience and explore the wonderful world of the soccer sideline and how to further support the players, coaches and referees of our club.
