We would like you to make an appearance -- or two -- if you are a library lover. Plus, you’ll receive the latest information about the library building plan.

On Monday, October 28 at 8pm at SOPAC, H3 Architects will make a presentation at the Village Board of Trustees meeting. Lots of attendees will demonstrate lots of support from the community!

Then come to the library 2 nights later – Wednesday, October 30 at 7pm – to get an in-depth presentation from H3 and a chance to ask questions.
Everyone is welcome to these presentations - and always.
South Orange Public Library by the numbers
  • SOPL is open 66 hours per week, 7 days a week, 52 weeks per year.
  • On average, over 420 people use the library in person each day.
  • Annually, over 76,000 items are circulated; over 50% of these are children’s materials.
  • The collection includes hard copy and electronic materials, including audio, visual, periodicals, and special items (e.g. SEAT kits, museum passes) – numbering over 135,000 items in all.  The library provides access to 38 databases (including languages and genealogy).
  • The single meeting room is booked almost continuously, with library programs taking priority on the frequent occasions that more than one group/program needs the space. In 2018 the library provided over 500 programs with annual attendance of 13,900. SOPL also provided space for over 40 community sponsored programs and meetings with 730 in attendance.
  • Summer reading attracts an average 700-900 participants - children, teens and adults.
  • Forty-seven computers, 20,000 users annually, unlimited wireless sessions and access to specialized software, hardware and tech assistance, are parameters of tech use. Library technology has increased (e.g., wireless printing from anywhere, 3D scanner/ printer, green screen, virtual reality and artificial intelligence), and use has expanded.
More information about the library is at the library director’s page.
Princesses and pirates and all kinds of people enter our library every day!
From the library director:
Thanks to all who can make an appearance at one or both architect's presentations. Whether you are able to appear or not, you can also show your support by reaching out to the Village President and Village Trustees. All at the library are also happy to hear from you as well.

The October 28 BOT meeting is streamed live and will also be available as a recording on the Village website. The library presentation will also be available on our YouTube channel where you can also find, among other interesting videos, a walkthrough of the library in which the two library buildings are linked – a vision in Minecraft.
