DEAR FRIENDS,
Earlier this month, nearly 300 civic, education, and community leaders joined Kids First Chicago to commemorate fifteen years of progress within Chicago public education.
Highlights from our 15th Anniversary Celebration include:
- CEO Daniel Anello, joined by his own parents, reflected on the power of parent-led advocacy.
- Two visionary district leaders, Arne Duncan and Dr. Janice K. Jackson, discussed Chicago's journey to improve educational outcomes for all students, the key drivers of our progress, and what is still needed to achieve true equity for all students.
- We honored three exceptional parent leaders, Consuelo Martinez, Rena Robinson, and Alma Sigala, for their work to help their communities understand Chicago's education system and organize around critical issues. We also honored Dr. Jackson for her career-long dedication to Chicago students.
- As a special surprise, we celebrated Dea C. Meyer, Executive Vice President of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, for her commitment to strengthening public education over the last twenty-five years.
Kids First Chicago's 15th Anniversary Celebration was co-chaired by Patrick J. Canning, Former Managing Partner of KPMG Chicago, David Casper, U.S. CEO of BMO Financial Group, Timothy R. Schwertfeger, Chairman & CEO Emeritus of Nuveen Investments and founding Board member of Kids First Chicago, and Nancy S. Searle, founding Board member of Kids First Chicago.
Many thanks to the friends and partners who gathered together with us on October 10 to consider how far we've come and commit to continuing our fight for high-quality education for all of Chicago's children. We look forward to the next 15 years!
