We did it!

IMIrJ leader Rev. Manuel Borbon celebrates together with partners from Innovation Law Lab, Stoll Berne, and the ACLU at the UTCR hearing in Salem on Friday, October 18th.

Dear Friend,

We did it! Your comments, pictures, views, and concern for the safety of all Oregonians has resulted in the UTCR Committee recommending to ban ICE officials from making arrests at courthouses without a warrant.

The UTCR saw nearly 100 comments from concerned residents across the state, nearly all of them from our IMIrJ community! You can take a look at the supplemental agenda viewed by the UTCR, which includes images from the Courthouse photos we took a few weeks ago, by copying and pasting this link into your browser: file:///Users/Little/Downloads/2019-Fall-UTCR-Supplemental-Agenda.pdf

Instead of stoking fear in our communities we choose to lead with love and compassion and in order for our justice system to operate effectively there must to be fair and equitable regulations in place.

The UTCR Committee’s vote is one important step in our work to ensure that Oregon communities and courthouses are free from ICE’s predatory presence. Our hope is that Chief Justice Martha Walters will take up the Committee’s recommendation and swiftly issue an emergency rule that bans ICE arrests in and around our courthouses starting now.

Quarterly Gatherings

We look forward to celebrating this victory with you at one of our upcoming Quarterly Gatherings, where we'll strengthen our relationships and capacity for our ongoing work as faith leaders and communities to advance immigrant and refugee justice in Oregon!  Scroll down for dates and stay tuned for more information.

In solidarity,

IMIrJ
