Mojatu Foundation Newsletter
October 2019

Transforming communities by enabling them to amplify their voices

Jambo from everyone at Mojatu Foundation!

Since our last newsletter, Mojatu has been extremely busy organising and attending new events. We are particularly excited about the launch of our newest training programmes, and upcoming events. We would like to start by thanking you for your continued support and donations, we really couldn't complete our life changing work without you! We use every opportunity to inform the public on how we can not only #EndFGM, but support survivors and families.
We continue to train up youth ambassadors and Faith Leaders who work closely with us to empower communities and encourage cohesion whilst we extend our message of zero tolerance to FGM. We are also excited to announce that we have been able to increase the community sessions we put on, reaching a wider audience than what we have previously been able to.
Education and Training
Since our last newsletter, Mojatu has worked in conjunction with a number of individuals and organisations to provide training and information sessions on FGM for Faith Leaders and young ambassadors. They proved to be very successful for all involved, with Mojatu training 30 Faith Leaders to become ambassadors against FGM.
Recently, Dr Edith Iheama attended AkiDwA's End FGM conference in Dublin, aimed at raising awareness of the practice of FGM and the stigma that surrounds it. We received hugely positive feedback and would like to thank Dr Edith for representing us at a hugely important event.
Black Achievers Awards 2019
In early October, Mojatu Foundation attended the Black Achievers Awards. The aim of the awards is to promote the achievements of Nottingham's BME community, changing stereotypes and inspiring future generations to help their communities, establish businesses and fulfil their potential. This is something we are very passionate about at Mojatu, and we were thrilled to be there!

We'd like to say a massive congratulations to all the nominees and recipients of awards. However, a special congratulations to Joan and Abdoullie, two members of our team, who won the Rising Star Award and Community Volunteer Award respectively. Let's keep supporting and celebrating the success of our black community!

Mojatu Visit to HMP Nottingham

To celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, Mojatu Foundation were invited to support Fearless Youth Association at HMP Nottingham. Here, we celebrated Black History Month, talked about opportunities, and discussed the role race plays in the prison.
