Ballard Multimodal Corridor

10/25/19 – Ballard Multimodal Corridor Construction Update

Two-way traffic has been restored on NW Market St, between 28th Ave NW and 26th Ave NW. This week, crews paved the east half of the 28th Ave NW and NW Market St intersection and completed conduit work in the intersection. Crews also continued pole foundation  and roadway work along NW 54th St and the south side of NW Market St.

As a reminder, the Metro eastbound bus stop in front of the National Nordic Museum has been temporarily relocated to the southwest corner of 28th Ave NW and NW Market St to accommodate work on the southeast corner of the intersection. We expect this relocation to be in place through the first week of November.

Please take care when traveling through the work zone as lanes may shift.

South side work on NW Market St
Upcoming work

This schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Crews will be working on Saturday, October 26 to complete pole foundation excavation work on the north side of NW Market St between 30th and 28th Avenues NW. Crews are scheduled to pour pole foundations on Monday, October 28 and will continue to patch foundations over the next few weeks.

Next week, crews will continue work on the south side of NW Market St. This includes pole foundation work, roadway paving, driveway paving, and curb pours. During the first week of November, we expect traffic to jog from the south side to the north side of NW Market St between 26th Avenue NW and 24th Avenue NW to accommodate SCL work and concrete paving over the existing trench. This will allow crews to remove the steel plates in the road.

On NW 54th St, several sidewalk and curb concrete pours are scheduled for next week. Crews will also continue conduit work. We will continue to work with businesses to coordinate driveway paving.

Sidewalk work will cause an increase in pedestrian impacts. Please follow pedestrian detour signage placed along the project corridor.

As work continues along the project corridor and limits space for cyclists on the road, please remember to share the sidewalk and be aware of your surroundings.

Crews continue roadway work on NW 54th St.
What to expect during construction
  • Typical work hours from 7 AM to 10 PM, Monday through Saturday
  • Crews may work some nights and weekends to minimize impacts to traffic during weekday commute times
  • On-street parking and lane restrictions near work locations
  • Temporary sidewalk and crosswalk closures with signed detours
  • Noise, dust, concrete odors, and vibration
  • Access to businesses and residences will remain open, driveway restrictions will apply
  • Work is weather dependent, so timing of work may change if needed
Stay connected Thanks for your patience and support while we complete this project. We’re working to minimize construction impacts as much as possible.

King County Metro Route 44

The Seattle Department of Transportation and King County Metro are seeking feedback from those who ride the Route 44 bus, and those who live along the corridor. Our goal is to improve the speed and reliability of the bus service, as well as making it safer for people to access it. The feedback collected will be incorporated into early design concepts that will then be presented to the public for further feedback.
