Opportunity to Serve

HHSC is seeking your assistance to share information on the opportunity for new members on the Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Advisory Committee. The ECI Advisory Committee is required by Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This committee advises the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in the operation of the statewide system of providing ECI services to eligible children and families in Texas.

The ECI Advisory Committee is a 24-member committee consisting of parents, providers, and representatives of state agencies with members serving staggered six-year terms. Members to this committee are appointed by the Governor. Meetings are held in Austin once a quarter. While most meetings include a phone conference option, members are encouraged to participate in person and travel reimbursement is available.

The committee must include at least seven parents of children age 12 or under who have knowledge or experience with programs for infants and toddlers with disabilities.  One of those seven must have a child age six or under. These parents cannot be employed by an ECI contractor.

If you have an interest in participating on the ECI Advisory Committee, please visit the Office of the Governor’s Appointments page located HERE.

For more information about the committee, including future meeting dates, please visit the ECI Advisory Committee page on the HHSC website located HERE.

Did you know that travel skills are a predictor of positive post-school outcomes?

Researchers have shown that students with disabilities who could travel independently outside the home to places like school, local stores, the library, and a neighbor’s house were more likely to be engaged in post-school employment than peers who could not.

This printable pocket guide can help you deal with the unexpected on a trip.

This checklist and guide can help you plan your trip.
