Alex Roberts

Our guest speaker is Alex Roberts who is a British artist who lives and works between Berlin and the UK

Free for members, guests welcome - £3.00 donation

Alex works with paint and translucence, addressing paintings’ surfaces, layers and spatial depth, via the play of colour and immediacy of marks. Currently she is exploring the tensions between what is public and what is private: how, in today’s digital world, appearance often contrasts with reality and sociability belies intimacy.
We are looking forward to a fascinating talk and hope to see you there.

DAVID EASTON
David Easton, who died on Thursday 17 October, had been a  professional artist since 1982 and his work was shown in group shows by galleries throughout the UK. In 1985 he was elected a Member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) and took part in many group shows around the UK. He was the author of two books about painting in watercolours: Watercolour Flowers (pub. 1993, Batsford) and Watercolour Inspirations (pub. 1997, Batsford)
David put his heart and soul into supporting our Sketch club! This was taken many years ago at the County Rooms now known as the City Rooms in town !
All screens were stored in a members garage and transported to the venuwhere many helped including  always David to erect them and then hang the exhibition!
Just a pic of him in action as a very active member!

Both David and Shirley were valuable and active members of both the LSA and the LSC ,and David was our secretary for many years .at our AGMs David was force to be reckoned with!…..he was a stickler for rules and quick to observe if any failings were made!, but he  had such a gentle and quiet manner!   always diplomatic so he was a well respected and loved gentleman!  He contributed a great deal to our Sketch Club, always there helping to sort and hang our paintings  at  our exhibitions.
David organised  painting holidays to Portugal. that were especially remembered and appreciated by a few of our present members!
David was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water colours in 1985, and also taught painting and  wrote books on water colour painting.
David and Shirley compiled our wonderful Centenary Book
We were proud and most fortunate to have them both  as our members.
(Sue Sansome)

“David was a prominent and leading figure in the art world of Leicester, a committee member of the Sketch Club and the LSA for many years and a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI). He taught many aspiring artists at his and his wife Shirley's home in Evington Lane.
Many very enjoyable painting holidays were organised and led by David and Shirley to Morzine and Salema where there was abundant inspiring subject matter to paint.
We are all grateful to David for his tireless enthusiasm and outstanding professional skill and will miss him very much.”
