Democratic presidential debate on Nov. 20 headed for Tyler Perry’s studio complex (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

The fifth debate of Democratic presidential candidates to be held on Nov. 20 at Tyler Perry Studios on the grounds of what once was Fort McPherson. The newly opened $250 million studio is the only major film studio in the nation owned by an African American.

Lyft Launches Jobs Access Program that Provides Free Transportation to Job Interviews (Lyft)

Lyft’s Jobs Access Program is a new initiative that aims to close short-term transportation gaps related to employment access and job training. The initiative will focus on three key interventions in the employment pipeline that are critical to individual success, and where transportation can play a major role:

  • Rides to/from job training programs

  • Rides to/from job interviews

  • Rides to/from the first three weeks of employment, until individuals receive their first paycheck and begin to pay for their own transportation

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

A medical algorithm affecting 200 million patients has steered black patients away from getting higher-quality care, showing just how biased artificial intelligence can be (Business Insider)

A new study in the journal Science just found a widely-used algorithm gave more complex treatment to White patients than sicker Black patients. The study's findings point to one of the many risks to implementing more AI in healthcare.

Truth Hurts: Lizzo credits writer of 'DNA test' tweet (BBC News)

 "I just took a DNA test turns out I'm 100% that...". These are the opening lyrics to Lizzo's hit song "Truth Hurts," which reached number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Black British singer Mina Lioness tweeted a similar phrase in 2017, and now Lizzo is sharing the songwriting credit with her, saying on Twitter:

"In 2017, while working on a demo, I saw a meme that resonated with me... I later used the line in Truth Hurts... I later learned that a tweet inspired the meme. The creator of the tweet is the person I am sharing my success with..."

Now that's what you call #BlackGirlMagic!

Dwyane Wade signs multi-year development deal with WarnerMedia (Variety)

The retired NBA All Star has signed a multi-faceted, multi-year deal with the company, including a development deal via his 59th & Prairie Entertainment production banner.

Part of the deal sees Wade sign on as a commentator at Turner Sports. In addition to his role as an on-air commentator, Wade will contribute as creative director for Bleacher Report, working on generating custom content experiences that resonate with young, passionate fans.

Watch President Obama's eulogy for Rep. Elijah Cummings (CBS News)

Former President Barack Obama delivered a eulogy yesterday honoring Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland, who died last week after a decades-long career in the House of Representatives. The widespread bipartisan adulation Cummings’s colleagues had for him was made clear on Thursday, when he lay in state at the Capitol—the first African American lawmaker to be afforded that honor in the nation’s history.
